Name the type of energy demonstrated by each example: 1)The food you eat 2)X-rays 3)Running 4)Waves caused by vibrations 5)The movement of molecules 6)Holds protons together

Identify if this is potential or kinetic energy: 7) Stretching a rubber band 8) Lifting a box in the air 9) A battery

10) What are the forms of dissipated energy in a roller coaster?

11) You put a pot of water on the stove top. You turn the stove top on. The water begins to boil and bubble, splashing over the pot. Draw an energy chain for this situation. ______  ________  _______

Describe the type of thermal energy transfer described in each situation. 12) A hot air balloon rises 13) Someone laying on the beach getting a tan (or sunburn!) 14) Rubbing your hands together

15) Molly and Melanie Molecule are sisters. They are very close. But they have been put over an open flame. Describe what will happen to Molly and Melanie.

Describe how the light wave is behaving in each example (one word is all you need): 16) Light hits a mirror and bounces back 17) A piece of black paper holds onto all the light hitting it 18) A prism breaks white light up into colors

19) Keisha is wearing a purple shirt. Why does her shirt look purple to you? (Describe what the light waves are doing).

20) Name as many forms of electromagnetic energy as you can remember. 3 is considered correct for this questions. More than 3 is a bonus. Any wrong answers count against you though!

Name the type of energy demonstrated by each example: 1)The food you eat chemical 2)X-rays electromagnetic/radiant 3)Running mechanical 4)Waves caused by vibrations sound 5)The movement of molecules thermal 6)Holds protons together nuclear

Identify if this is potential or kinetic energy: 7) Stretching a rubber band potential 8) Lifting a box in the air potential 9) A battery potential All three are kinds of energy waiting to be used.

10) What are the forms of dissipated energy in a roller coaster? Thermal and sound. The vibrations of the coaster wheels cause sound, and friction between the wheels and the track cause heat. These are “dissipated” or wasted energies.

11) You put a pot of water on the stove top. You turn the stove top on. The water begins to boil and bubble, splashing over the pot. Draw an energy chain for this situation. Electric  thermal  mechanical (Chemical) …. If you have a gas stove

Describe the type of thermal energy transfer described in each situation. 12) A hot air balloon rises convection (hot air rises) 13) Someone laying on the beach getting a tan (or sunburn!) radiation (traveling in waves) 14) Rubbing your hands together conduction (through friction)

15) Molly and Melanie Molecule are sisters. They are very close. But they have been put over an open flame. Describe what will happen to Molly and Melanie. Since molecules become less dense and move with greater energy as they heat up, Molly and Melanie will see less of each other as they spread out and begin moving more rapidly.

Describe how the light wave is behaving in each example (one word is all you need): 16) Light hits a mirror and bounces back reflection 17) A piece of black paper holds onto all the light hitting it absorption 18) A prism breaks white light up into colors refraction

19) Keisha is wearing a purple shirt. Why does her shirt look purple to you? (Describe what the light waves are doing). All the light waves hitting the shirt are being absorbed except for the purple waves. These are being reflected back to your eye so you can see that color.

20) Name as many forms of electromagnetic energy as you can remember. Radio waves Microwaves Infrared Visible light Ultraviolet X-rays Gamma rays
