What you will learn Why is Humidification Important? Who Needs Humidification? Humidification Product Portfolio Application and Installation Overview Positioning Humidification to Homeowners Click For Next Slide

Why is Humidification Important? Consumer need for Indoor Air Quality solutions mushroomed in the nineties as homes were starting to be built more tightly and people become more aware of health related issues. It is estimated that 1-in-6 Americans have allergies, asthma or respiratory problems. While air cleaners and ventilation keep indoor air clean, proper humidification is needed to help control, minimize and eliminate unhealthy airborne pollutants. There are five major reasons Humidification is important: Health Comfort Energy Savings Consumer Need Consumer Demand Click For Next Slide

Humidity & Health Bacteria Optimum Zone 102030405060708090 ASHRAE recommended winter design level Viruses Fungi Mites Respiratory Infections Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma Chemical Interactions Ozone Production Impact of Indoor Relative Humidity on Common Biologic Indoor Air Pollutants* *American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc 1985 The ASHRAE standard range for optimum indoor relative humidity is between 40-60% year round, and 35% during the heating season. Controlling indoor relative humidity is important to health because too little humidity can create microscopic cracks in a person’s nasal membrane, leaving the body more vulnerable to infections from bacteria and viruses. Conversely, too much humidity creates ideal breeding conditions for mold, mildew and dust mites; from which the waste products are among the most troublesome triggers of asthma and allergies. Air conditioners, dehumidifiers and ventilation can keep RH levels from getting too high during non-heating seasons, but during cold weather these homes need humidification to avoid the unpleasantness of too much or too little humidification. And as requirements and need for ventilation systems grow, so too will the need for humidification. Click For Next Slide

With proper humidification, Homeowners can: Reduce static electricity, static cling, and dry irritated skin. Protect the woodwork, furniture, and paintings from ‘drying out’ and cracking. Reduce energy costs because moist air feels warmer than dry air, so Homeowners can set their thermostats back without noticing a drop in temperature, effectively saving money on their utility bills. In fact, lowering a thermostat just three degrees can reduce heating bills by 5% or more! Comfort & Energy Savings Click For Next Slide

Humidification not normally needed Humidification normally needed Humidification Climates Aside from coastal regions of the west and southeast, most every region in the U.S. can benefit from indoor humidification control. Geographically, Southwest, Midwest, Northern and Mountainous areas of North America can benefit greatly from humidification. Click For Next Slide

Who Needs Humidification? Families with children People who suffer from respiratory dryness, cracked throat, dry nasal cavities House healthy consumers Transplants to new climate Click For Next Slide

Benefits of Whole-House vs.. Portable Higher and more evenly dispersed humidity throughout home. Automatic water filling and emptying Less maintenance Out-of-sight, doesn’t take up space in the living areas of the home. Click For Next Slide

HE265 and HE225 Bypass Evaporates up to 12 gpd (HE225) or 17 gpd (HE265). Covers up to 2000 sq ft (HE225) or 2800 sq ft (HE265) PerfectFLO™ distributes water quickly and evenly Right- or left-mounted configuration Robust solenoid valve UV stabilizers Easy-install seasonal dampers Click For Next Slide

HE225/265 Operation and Installation At the same time, the humidifier solenoid valve energizes to provide water through a feed tube, dispersing evenly into the PerfectFLO distribution tray. The distribution tray is sloped and channeled to provide rapid and even dispersement through the tray and into the clay media pad. The HE225/265 follow the principle that vapor is created when warm air blows over a water-soaked area. As the vapor circulates, the relative humidity rises. As the warm dry air is pushed into the supply plenum from the furnace, it results in a higher pressure in the supply versus the return. The bypass humidifier and ductwork assembly effectively sucks air from the supply, through the soaked clay media pad which humidifies the air, and blows it into the return for recirculation through the furnace and out into the living areas. The typical installation location for bypass humidifiers is on either the supply plenum or the return plenum, based on what makes most sense in the particular application. When a furnace gets a call for heat, air is warmed as it passes through the furnace and into the supply plenum heading toward the living areas of the house. Click For Next Slide

HE360 Fan-Power Operation For even greater capacity, the HE365 powered flow-through uses an interior fan to humidify up to 18 gallons of water per day, humidifying a maximum capacity of 3000 sq feet. The interior fan allows effective delivery of humidity regardless of system airflow velocities. The internal fan on the HE365 acts as a booster, sucking warm dry air from the supply plenum, through the HE365 blower fan and out into the supply. Powered flow-through humidifiers do not require a bypass duct to create airflow through the pad. The humidifier fan sucks air into the humidifier and blows it out through the pad on its own. For maximum efficiency, powered flow-through humidifiers should be mounted only to the supply plenum where the air temperature is hottest. Click For Next Slide

HC22E, HC26E Humidifier Pads For use with HE365, HE265 and HE225 Aluminum mesh layers provide durable media for humidification Clay coating more effectively retains water AgION ® Anti-microbial coating inhibit bacterial growth, extending humidifier operation and inhibiting airborne microbials. Universal design also fits Aprilaire ® humidifiers Click For Next Slide

Patented PerfectFLO ® Water Distribution The Honeywell water tray has a sloped, channeled surface which leads to drain holes that are flush with the tray bottom. This allows for faster, more even water distribution over the humidifier pad, but also because there is no standing water in the tray, the risk of mineral build-up and maintenance is substantially reduced. The contractor also has the liberty to be within 5% level without reducing water distribution evenness. Click For Next Slide

Positioning Humidification to Homeowners Ask questions - Dry skin, eyes - Young children or a baby - Portables Observe home for signs After identifying a need: - Explain humidification benefits  Takes up less space in the room  Don’t have to remember to fill it back up  More comfortable, saves money - Utilize Honeywell sell sheets - Bring a humidifier inside the home with you - Offer trade in program on portables Click For Next Slide
