4 Jubail Industrial College COURSE: CONTROLLERS & CONTROL LOOPS This training course introduces trainees with little back ground on Instrumentation and control Course Title: Controllers & Control Loops Course Learning Outcomes: On the completion of the course, the trainee should be able to:  Identify and compare the feedback control system, open loop system and close loop system  Identify the elements of Process Control loop  Understand and Use the PID diagrams  Understand the Direct- and Reverse-mode of Controller  Define and utilize the significance and effect of proportional, integral and derivative control modes on process response and the suitability of their use to various processes.  Apply the concept of controller tuning for different tuning methods  Identify and apply the techniques/concept of advance control strategies like cascade control, feed-forward control and ratio-control Course Outline: Introduction to process control (open loop system & closed loop system), Elements of process control, Process control signals, Process & instrumentation diagram, Feedback controllers, Direct & reverse action of a controller, Control modes, Stability of feedback control loop, Control tuning, Determination of ultimate gain & period, Closed loop controller tuning, Open loop testing, Open loop controller tuning, Improving controller tuning, and Selection of feedback controller modes. 5 Jubail Industrial College COURSE: PROCESS CONTROL INSTRUMENTATION This training course introduces trainees with little back ground on Instrumentation and control Course Title: Process Control Instrumentation Course Learning Outcomes: On the completion of the course, the trainee should be able to:  Understanding the Process Control Instrumentation and inter-conversion of units  Identify the terminologies used for selecting devices in instrumentation  Operate and describe various pressure measuring instruments and basic terms related to pressure.  Operate and describe various level measuring instruments and basic terms related to level.  Operate and describe various temperature measuring instruments and basic terms related to temperature.  Operate and describe various flow measuring instruments and basic terms related to flow. Course Outline: Introduction to process measurement, Pressure measurement (pressure gauges, bourdon tube gauges, pressure switches, pressure transducers, pressure calibration standards and pressure transmitters (pneumatic & electronics), Flow measurements (rate & quantity of flow, laminar, transient & turbulent flow and orifice plate & venturi differential pressure transmitter), Temperature measurements (temperature units & scales, thermometers & bimetal thermometers, thermocouples & resistance temp. detectors (RTD) and wheatstone bridge), Level measurements (direct & indirect methods), Purged air system, Float & displacer, Capacitor method and Radar & ultrasonic methods WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Course Title: Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) Course Learning Outcomes: On the completion of the course, the trainee should be able to:  Specify PLC hardware and installation criteria.  Develop a PLC program for an automatic control system of a medium degree of complexity.  Select the right hardware for a given industrial application.  Connect the field devices to the PLC to create a complete control system.  Consider such aspects of the automation system as network communication, human machine interface, safety and protection against interference.  Program typical industrial PLC hardware.  Troubleshoot a typical PLC system. Course Title: Advanced Programmable Logic Controllers Programming Course Learning Outcomes: On the completion of the course, the trainee should be able to:  Read and interpret common through more advanced ladder logic programming for PLC.  Logically troubleshoot common through advanced PLC problems.  Searching / Finding program components, instructions, or addresses.  Speed tricks and tips when troubleshooting and/or programming.  Program / edit PLC programs (when appropriate).  Procure detailed understanding of processor operation.  Procure detailed understanding of IO wiring & layout as applied to troubleshooting.  Acquire ability to fully utilize all features of PLC software.  Acquire ability to implement advanced tools included in a professional PLC software.  Understand advanced programming instructions.  Understand and be able to observe / basically tune PID loops and the PID instruction.  Understand and be able to troubleshoot Message instructions and communication systems.  Safely perform all common procedures and tasks related to PLC‘s.  Acquire ability to design, plan, troubleshoot, and program increasingly complex PLC systems. Course Title: Electrical Trouble shooting Course Learning Outcome: On the completion of the course, the trainee should be able to:  introducing the participants to carrying out effective troubleshooting of motors and control circuits using different test equipment and making fault diagnosis. Course Outline: Introduction, OFF/ON-line troubleshooting overview and specialized test equipments, Five- step approach to problem analysis and transformer troubleshooting example, Troubleshooting practice on motor control circuits, and Logic control circuit troubleshooting using computer software. Classifications, constructions and applications will be explained and demonstrated. SF 6 circuit breaker will be highlighted. Course Title: Switch Gears Course Learning Outcome: On the completion of the course, the trainee should be able to:  Identify and know the operating principles of different kinds of current interrupting devices such as circuit breakers, re-closers, fuses and isolators. Course Outline: Introduction, Types of circuit breakers, air blast circuit breakers, air circuit breakers, vacuum circuit breakers, oil circuit breakers, Re-closers, Sectionalizers, Types of fuses, low voltage and current limiting fuses, and explosion fuses. 11 Jubail Industrial College COURSE: ELECTRICAL POWER SYSTEMS This course introducing the power system components and representation, different types of renewable and nonrenewable energy sources, generation types, transmission line and cable parameters, analysis of transmission and distribution lines, electric insulators, power system faults, grounding systems, high voltage surges, and the main components of the distribution system. Course Title: Electrical Power Systems Course Learning Outcome: On the completion of the course, the trainee should be able to:  Understand the working principles of electrical power generation, transmission and distribution aspects of electrical power, re-closers, fuses and isolators. Course Outline: Introduction, Energy resources & types of power plants, Electrical & mechanical features of transmission lines, power flow & control, distribution layouts & voltage levels, sub-station equipment & layouts.
