Page 2Version 1.0 IEEE 802 March 2011 workshop EEE 802 802.18 Activities The IEEE 802.18 Radio Regulatory Technical Advisory Group (RR-TAG) supports the wireless Working Groups (WG) in the IEEE 802 by interfacing with national regulatory agencies, the ITU-R and industry groups working on regulatory issues. The revision of national radio regulations is a continuous process. The RR-TAG follows that activity and works with the relevant IEEE 802 wireless WGs to develop appropriate inputs and comments on those revisions. Active participation in ongoing radio regulatory activities, both at the national and international levels, are 802.18’s role in IEEE 802’s wireless standards development.

Page 3Version 1.0 IEEE 802 March 2011 workshop EEE 802 Some Typical 802.18 Activities Initiated the recent revision of ITU-R Recommendation M.1450 which now lists RLAN technologies for use in the 5 GHz frequency band. Provided input to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on the use of radio frequency wireless technology in medical devices. Provided inputs to the U.S. FCC inquiries on defining Broadband, the use of TV White Spaces, to the U.K. Ofcom on the Digital Dividend. Inputs to ITU-R on the use of cognitive radio systems & multi-gigabit wireless systems operating around 60 GHz.
