6 B: PLACE, give directions
TOPIC (the place or thing you are talking about) GIVE Directions (NEAR-TO, NEXT-TO, ACROSS-FROM), (Distance: close by, moderate, very far) and spatial references (pointing) Begin by referring to objects or places NEARBY then give information about where it is located. (optional to sign the place/thing again) Candy machine Water fountain, ACROSS-FROM, point at candy machine Library Trash, NEXT-TO door Clock Poster, (point to space on top of poster) ATM NEAR-TO women’s bathroom

7 Instructions for activity:
- Take turns asking for directions using the following locations below. - Repeat partner’s directions and confirm (RIGHT?) *Remember to raise your eyebrows when required. * You may need to go back and forth several times before the person asking directions understands where to go. This is a normal part of the communication process.
