2 Practicalities AS and A-level are to be made separate qualifications (Labour may reverse this in May) They are to be made ‘linear’ – where students take exams at the end of the course Happening in 3 stages – 2015, 2016 and 2017

5 Stage 3 Changes affecting Wellsway Sixth Form students Teaching from 2017 ‘A range of further subjects’ (currently consulting)

6 How will this affect your child? Some students will be taking both linear and non-linear (modular) courses from 2015, depending on their options. For example Current Modular Course Maths New linear courses Physics Chemistry Geography Current Modular Course Philosophy and Belief Theatre Studies New linear courses English Language Sociology

7 How will this affect your child? They will need to…… Learn and be examined in different ways Adapt their learning styles quickly Manage time carefully

8 A-level Changes Strengthened mathematical content in…….. Psychology, Biology, Physics, Chemistry Increased emphasis on practical skills in……. Biology, Physics, Chemistry English Literature Inclusion of an unseen text

9 A-level Changes 100% final examination: Business Studies; Economics; Psychology; Sociology; Biology; Chemistry; Physics 80% final exam plus 20% non-exam assessment: Computer Science; English Language; English Literature; History 100% non-exam assessment (40% allocated to tasks set by exam boards and completed in a specified time): Art and Design

10 How have we prepared? All subject specifications have been identified for 2015 already Training needs identified and plans in place Structure of the academic year being investigated Re-structure in Sixth Form roles has already taken place to support the change in demands

The right courses Production of a Wellsway Pathways booklet Choosing the right courses Widening our course offer to help with pathways AS Core Maths – 2 years (supplementary to core study) A-level Computer Science A level Food Technology Level 3 BTEC Applied Science Additional Sport qualifications

12 How many A-levels/Level 3 courses do I take? Current advice (no change from last year) Choose 3- 4 subjects when applying (Engineering, H&SC and BTEC Sport take up two choices each) Chance to change your mind later as the year develops Keep an eye out for announcements and further developments

13 How do we fit in with the Wellsway Multi-Academy Trust? Part of the same Trust Our Sixth Form is a separate entity IKB, Wellsway, Bath Studio School all offer different ways of learning and progressing onto Uni/apprenticeships/work etc.

14 Open Evenings IKB Studio School – Wednesday 1 st October starts 7pm – Mendip Hall Wellsway Sixth Form – Wednesday 15 th October 6 – 8 pm
