3 3 Serve as an interface between the volunteer leaders and the SHRM Board of Directors Composed of one elected representative from each Regional Council Provides operational input to SHRM to ensure optimum service/support to and from the volunteer leadership Two-way channel of communication Membership Advisory Council

4 4 Composed of State Council directors and MAC representative in each geographical region Provide an organized structure Facilitate successful practice sharing Provide guidance and assistance Encourage State Councils to establish connection Play a key role in identifying and communicating emerging strategic issues to the Membership Advisory Council (MAC) Regional Councils

5 SHRM VERMONT STATE COUNCIL SHRM Vermont State Council: Our mission: Serve as a conduit for communication between SHRM members and chapters. Coordinate chapter efforts at the state level. Facilitate services and programs for the collective interests of Vermont's membership and chapter leaders and all SHRM members in the state. Serving the Human Resource professional and advancing the Human Resource profession by serving as a resource for the HR professional in matters of education, strategic direction, legislative lobbying and promotion and enhancement of Human Resources as a profession.

6 SHRM Vermont State Council ABOUT US: We are an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management. Whether you are new to the HR field or have many years of experience, we are a local starting point for networking, information, professional development and continued support of excellence in Human Resources

7 7 ALL chapter presidents in the state and other volunteers Provide a structure Adopt programs which will promote Facilitate information sharing Assess/Meet the needs of members and chapters Coordinate legislative initiatives Provide leadership development Communicate with SHRM at-large members State Councils

8 8 Chapter Presidents attend State Council meetings & our voting members of the board State council members can be excellent resources for your chapter – They have been in your shoes as a volunteer – Can be speakers for your chapter as well

11 Core Leadership Areas Core Leadership Area Directors at the State Council level disseminate information to chapter level CLA Directors Chapters and State Councils are strongly encouraged to have representation in each core leadership area on their chapter and state council boards College Relations Diversity HR Certification Legislative Membership SHRM Foundation Workforce Readiness Technology 11

12 Initiatives SHRM learning system certification course – Scholarship program - $1,400 State Conference – 14 th year 2 nd annual legislative conference, 11/17/14 Vermont Professional of the Year Award

13 Vermont State Council – We meet roughly quarterly mostly by phone; in person in Jan/Feb to review strategic plan – At state conference Conference committee meets more frequently to plan and coordinate events such as today.

Definitions: – one who enters into or offers himself for any service of his own free will – individuals who reach out beyond the confines of their paid employment and of their normal responsibilities to contribute time and service to a not-for-profit cause in the belief that their activity is beneficial to others as well as satisfying to themselves – volunteerism is any activity that is relatively uncoerced, intended to help, conducted without primary or immediate thought of financial gain, and is work, not play
