My S.T.E.M Fair

Which brand of bubble gum loses it’s flavor the fastest?
Question Which brand of bubble gum loses it’s flavor the fastest?

Purpose The purpose of my investigation is to determine what brand of bubble gum loses it’s flavor the fastest based on the loss of sugar content. This is important to know because if you want to chew a piece of bubble gum for a long time with it still having flavor, you would know which brand to buy.

Hypothesis I hypothesize that Double Bubble will lose it’s flavor the fastest. I believe this because from my schema of just chewing gum, is that loses it’s flavor really fast.

Materials 5 pieces of Extra bubble gum
5 pieces of Dubble bubble bubble gum 5 pieces of Hubba bubba gum Phone timer Balance Gram cubes 15-4x6 inch's of coffee filter (to lay gum on)

Directions 1. Gather materials 2. Put a piece of gum in balance on a 4x6 piece of coffee filter 3. Balance the piece of gum with gram cubes 4. Record mass 5. Chew the gum for 30 minutes 6. Let each piece of gum dry for four hours on a coffee filter 7. Find the mass of the piece of gum again 8. Record mass 9. Repeat steps 2-7 five times with each brand of gum 10. Repeat steps 2-8 for four more trails

Conclusion My hypothsize was incorrect. Dubble Bubble did not loses it’s flavor the fastest. Chewing extra Bubble gum, I found that the average lose of sugar was 2 grams. The next gum, Dubble Bubble had an average of 4.7 grams lost. For Hubba Bubba there was an average of 5 grams that were lost. If I had to do this experiment again, I would not have blown any bubbles because it might have effected the loss of sugar.
