Comenius project The world of myth and mystery Comenius project The world of myth and mystery By group 4 Zespol Szkol G6 SP13 Zawiercie, Poland,,A visit at devil Boruta’s”

Tum and Łęczyca are two towns where you are bound to come across the devil called Boruta. There are ruins that, according to folk beliefs, are haunted. Tourists arriving in Łęczyca are welcomed from afar by the tower of the royal palace which was built in the 14th century by King Casimir the Great.,,A visit at devil Boruta’s ”

The palace is the home of the devil Boruta, Poland's most notorious devil, of whom there are different depictions in the castle's courtyard. The "castle" Boruta, which guards the castle's treasures, is in the shape of an owl, the "marshy" Boruta, who guides people over marshes, has the form of an insect, and the "water spirit" Boruta, who drowns people in ponds, looks like a fish.,,A visit at devil Boruta’s ”

The legend about the noble called Boruta Boruta was a lord of the castle in Łęczyca. But before he became the lord.... The legend says, he was a poor forester, whom the king Carmir the Great gave tresures and the nobility as a reward for helping the king and his company to get out of the swamp near Łęczyca.,,A visit at devil Boruta’s ”

As the result, the modest villager became the conceited noble. The noble Boruta lived in such a way to go to hell after death. However, he was too cunning to let himself agonize in hell. The legend does not say how he did it, but he did. Lucifer made him the lord of all Polish devils and gave the land of Łęczycain possession.,,A visit at devil Boruta’s ”

Therefore, Boruta came back to his land and has been present in Łęczyca up today. The name Boruta (what means Forest) comes from forest. In old Proto beliefs, Boruta was a demon identified with a beardedforest guard (keeper of animals, patron saint of hunters). Another theory says the name Boruta has been taken from the word ’pine’ (a pine meant boruta in Old Polish). The demon lived in the pine.,,A visit at devil Boruta’s ”

In medieval times, as the result of Christianisation, the old demon was begun being identified with a devil. He is walking in the castle courtyard with a saber. In the form of an owl, he guars dungeons of the castle and tresures hidden there. As the muddy Boruta, in the form of a bird with enormous wings, he appears in the meadows.,,A visit at devil Boruta’s ”

As the Boruta kelpie, in the waters of Bzura, he takes the shape of a huge fish with horns. The black Boruta with a tail and pitchfork moves near the Romanesque collegiate in Tum. Boruta „windy” in the dust of field paths, Boruta "beekeeper” stealing honey from hives, Boruta „miller” milling flour in abandoned mills.,,A visit at devil Boruta’s ”
