The Scouts Group decided to go camping.
With them they took: a map a compass binoculars
When they arrived at the camping site, they put up a camp.
The site was on a hill and they had some interesting views.
They could see: a farm a castle a river a harbour
They drew a map
These four points are called directions
The compass points
If you are at the campsite what do you see if you look North?
If you are at the campsite what do you see if you look South?
In what direction from the campsite is the castle?
In what direction from the campsite is the harbour?
How many angles can be seen in this compass?
These angles are called Right Angles
The children are facing North. What do they see if they turn 1 Right Angle clockwise?
The children are facing North. In which direction will they be facing if they turn 2 Right Angles clockwise?
The children are facing East. What do they see if they turn 3 Right Angles clockwise?
What do they see if they turn 1 Right Angle anticlockwise? The children are facing East.

What is an Angle?. Objectives Know that angles are measured in degrees That a whole turn is 360º That half a turn is 180º Right angle is 90º
Directions. Remember there are the four main directions we deal with on maps or with compasses. Remember… The sun rises in the EAST and sets in the WEST.
A. How do we tell the location by letters and numbers?
Rotation On a coordinate grid. For a Rotation, you need An angle or fraction of a turn –Eg 90° or a Quarter Turn –Eg 180° or a Half Turn A direction –Clockwise.
