2 Rota-JETTER - DEFINED SELF-CONTAINED RIG – Ready to Clean
“It’s like a industrial version of a ROTO-ROOTER.” Jack Jones, County Commissioner – Liberty County – Dayton, Texas The only culvert cleaning machine with gas engine powered rotational cleaning tools that does the heavy work with high pressure water. This provides operators with the fastest and most efficient way to clean blocked culverts. Complete Self-Contained Culvert Cleaner Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Gordon Dixon SIGLER SYSTEMS LLC

3 PRODUCTIVITY: 24” Culvert 36’ long under paved county road
This culvert was fully blocked with dried clay. The Road & Bridge department has tried multiple times to clean this culvert. Because of the blockage it was causing road over flooding and eroding the road. It was scheduled to be replaced. The crew had not ever seen the Rota-JETTER before then. The two man crew unloaded, setup, cleaned the culvert and was back on trailer in less then 40 minutes! After review of the job the Road Supervisor told us the Rota-JETTER just saved them over $2,500 by cleaning culvert vs. digging up and replacement cost. Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Gordon Dixon

4 PRODUCTIVITY: 30 Culverts Cleaned in one day
RICHLAND PARISH – Rayville, LA has owned there Rota-JETTER for just over five years. In May of 2008 the Parish took delivery to there new Hydro-static Rota-JETTER. They needed the larger tools and wanted the self-propelled wheels with the larger mud tires. Richland Parish has a “Drainage Supervisor” who is responsible for cleaning culverts and keeping water flowing. He checks out three minimum security prisoners each morning and they operated the machine and do the culvert cleaning. Not long ago they cleaned 30 culverts in one day with their older CLASSIC Rota-JETTER Culvert Cleaning Machine. Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Gordon Dixon

5 OPERATION: DOWN IN DITCH – Inline with culvert
This Public Works employee is using the “Classic” Rota-JETTER down in a dry ditch. Using the machine this way requires fewer cleaning rods because machine can run almost right up to the culvert opening as part of the process. Sometimes this mode is not possible because of standing water in ditch or possibly other culvert too close, Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Gordon Dixon

6 OPERATION: AT ROAD LEVEL – From shoulder of road
This Public Works employees are using the “Classic” Rota-JETTER up on shoulder of road without having to operate machine down in water and mud. Our heavy duty schedule 160 cleaning rods allows the machine to flex down into the ditch and into the culvert. This normally requires additional feet more cleaning rods then the length of the culvert being cleaned. The closest worker is using the Joy-Stick to control the cleaning rods. It doesn't take much effort. Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Gordon Dixon

7 PROBLEM: Double 36 Inch – 70 Foot Long – LOCATION
Culverts are represented by double yellow lines. Arrow points to location. Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Gordon Dixon

8 PROBLEM: Double 36 Inch – 70 Foot Long – FULLY BLOCKED
BEFORE Cleaning You don’t have to have a tool the size of the culvert. This 36” culvert was cleaned with the largest tool we had at the time. A 13” Tool, this was prior to Hydro-Static Power Unit and the Skid-Steer options. Gordon Dixon

Two Months after Rota-JETTER CLEANING Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Note rocks already starting to block culvert again! Gordon Dixon

10 VIDEO: Tool being “pulled back” through, cleaning the culvert.
The next slide will show one of the cleaning tools just before going into culvert. The water starts then the rotation. Then it is pulled back through the culvert. Then the video changes to the exit side of the culvert as the tool comes out of the culvert. NOTE: Normally water and rotation is not started until tool is put INTO the culvert. 12 MACHINE SETUP: Unload Power unit and layout Cleaning Rods for assembly
Wood blocks hold cleaning rods during setup but also provide cleaning rod control during operation. Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Gordon Dixon

13 ROOTS: Roots DO NOT have a chance with the Rota-JETTER Rota-JETTER
This has happened time and time again during the operation of the Rota-JETTER. We were in Joplin, Mo presenting the unit to about 35 MoDot engineers. For some reason they were all standing at the far end when we stopped rotation and pushed 9” tool out, to replace with larger one. One guy was pointing down and the others were intensely looking down. They were surprised to see the tool had removed the root that was growing in culvert. The picture below shows the 1/2” Root that came out of the culvert. This is a small root compared to come that we have seen come out wrapped around the tool or cleaning rods after the tool had cut them. You can see a small hole in shaft near the root. This is one of the holes we pump 10GPM water at about 150PSI that liquefies what’s in the culvert. Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Gordon Dixon

14 CLEANING PROCESS: Bore through completed, Changing bit to Cleaning tool.
Power unit ready to do a PULL-BACK which pulls the cleaning tool back to entry end. We found a problem in pull-back. Parish Public Works Director (In white hat), stated that is culvert has only been in for about six months. The Rota-JETTER showed him where there was a collapse in the culvert! Rota-JETTER Hydro-Static Ver 1.0 in picture. Also this shows machine operating from shoulder of the road Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Gordon Dixon

15 CLEANING PROCESS: Found joint failure, causing the blockage.
There was a joint in the plastic culvert and it looks like when installed they caved in the side. The boring bit was small enough to get through but only the 4” tools would go through the culvert both ways. It was a 20” culvert but only a 4” tool could be pulled. By marking where power unit started from we were able to measure where the blockage was. It was 4.5 feet from the other end. One of the guys had a flashlight and got down and looked and said “Yep, Its blocked 4.5 feet in!” Rota-JETTER can clean over 95% of all blocked culverts without digging them up and replacing them. 16 CLEANING PROCESS: Pull-back with full load of clay coming out!
We always recommend that a backhoe or Gradall be used to scoop out each end of the culvert prior to starting cleaning. This makes cleaning much easier and gives debris inside culvert a place to go when machine pulls / removes it. We requested the removal of in front of both sides of culvert prior to demo. They didn’t so we had to pull out on-top of existing mud. Shortly after completion the mud flowed back into the culvert because it was not removed with back-hoe. 17 POWER UNIT: Hydro-Static – Double Hydro-Static Pump – Current Production
FC-6000 PTO: Forward, Neutral, Reverse WHEELS: Forward, Neutral, Reverse Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Wheel drive pump is Hydro-Static which allows FULL Torque(Power) at all wheel speeds. More operator control of unit pulling and pushing tools through culvert. Larger PTO Motor rated for “Earth Boring” with large internal thrust bearings and double seals for harsh operations. Gordon Dixon

18 WHY HYDRO-STATIC? Rota-JETTER
Simply stated Hydro-Static gives you the most control and the greater applied power during operation. If dealing with the PTO Rotation running the Cleaning tools or controlling ground movement of the machine the Hydro-Static built-in variable speed control gives the operator greater control.. In-fact with hydro-Static the slower the speed the higher the pulling torque you can apply to the work. At some point you would just loose traction and spin the tires. Our use of two(2) Hydro-Static Pumps gives the operator the controls they need and the machine more than enough power to get the job done. The Rota-JETTER Hydro-Static unit has been designed to operate at the Gas Engines highest torque but its really just a little more then half speed of the engine. Any more RPM in the engine give NO Additional power to the PTO or Wheel hydraulic motors. By this design the Rota-JETTER burns less fuel, Allows pumps to operate will with-in there operational range. Running the gas engine at lower than full speed allows less operational noise and increase the parts life span. The Engine has a setting which is set to operates at about 2,400 RPM. Any Rpm above this burns more gas, creates more noise in can increase hydraulic oils temperature! This pumps requires only 2 gallons of hydraulic fluid, he have put a five gallon tank on unit and run the cold water under the tank. This is all reduce oil heat and increase unit lifespan. This added oil and cooling allows the unit to run continuously without creating excessive destructive heat Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Gordon Dixon

19 POWER UNIT: SKID-STEER – Quick Attach PTO Attachment
PTO: Forward, Neutral, Works with regular or HIGH Flow AUX Hydraulic Ports Movement: Movement of PTO is supplied by Skid-Steers directional controls Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER You can see the Hydro-Static power unti behind the SkidSteer. They cleaned the first culvert with Skid-Steer and the second with the Power unit. Gordon Dixon

20 SKID-STEER vs Rota-JETTER Power Unit
The Skid-Steer option does not clean the culvert any faster then the other unit unless all your culverts are larger than 30”. The Skid-Steer unit does not allow you to clean larger culverts. The PTO Rotation and Water requirements are the SAME on both units. Both units have same Tool Power. The Skid-Steer can over-drive the tool and cause parts breakage without proper operation. The Skid-Steer option does allow savings for someone who already owns a Skid-Steer. This option requires Skid-Steer to have AUX hydralulic ports. Because the Skid-Steer can supply the forward and backwards movement and supply the Hydraulic pressure to operate the PTO Attachment the customer does not have to purchase Rota-JETTER Hydro-Static Power unit. This can save the custom about $5,000. Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Gordon Dixon

21 SKID-STEER Operator Comments
MnDot purchase both the Skid-Steer and the Rota-JETTER Power Unit. Quote “ Since we just received our first Skid-Steer last month everyone wants to use it on jobs. By purchase both unit if I have a set of problem culverts I can send the “Rota-JETTER RIG out with two guys and a pickup truck and they can go fix the problem. However if the Skid-Steer is open they can take it too but will require additional equipment resources and manpower to support that.” Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Gordon Dixon

22 MnDOT’S Comments Rota-JETTER
MoDOT: We are not interested in Skid-Steer because we the cost savings the Rota-JETTER provides to us by deploying less equipment and manpower to site for the same results. The Rota-JETTER will allow us to save over $4, on some of our blocked culverts where current are cutting pavement and repaving after. With the Rota-JETTER we are done in few hours, the old way could take a couple days and a lot more Manpower and Equipment and resources. Rota-JETTER CULVERT CLEANER Gordon Dixon

23 MoDOT’S Comments Rota-JETTER
MoDOT: We are not interested in Skid-Steer because we the cost savings the Rota-JETTER provides to us by deploying less equipment and manpower to site for the same results. “We have never seen a small unit like this that can do what it does!” This unit was purchase under the MoDOT “NEW AND EXPERMENTAL EQUIPMENT” Road Maintenance Cost reduction fund.
