NDA Presentation

2 Challenges to Overcome
Overcome Ethernet distance limitation More bandwidth over Category 1/2/3 support advanced media-rich applications Drive down per-line costs while driving up performance by utilizing Ethernet components Retain key QoS, security, provisioning and management features Ensure equipment is easy to use and provides platform for future applications

3 Technology Solution: LRE (Ethernet Over VDSL)
5, 10 or 15 Mbps symmetric throughput Maps directly to full duplex Ethernet Allows for true high speed BANs Co-exists with POTS and digital phones Requires splitter Up to 5000 ft over single pair Cat 3 Runs over Cat 1, 2 as well unstructured wiring Based on robust Catalyst switching platform Voice frequency bands can differ, so in addition to our own splitter we will be able to reference sell splitters for homologation requirements that don’t match our splitter. ISDN is an example of this. Our splitter will not work with ISDN although LRE is spectrally compatible.

12 LRE Technology Overview
Enables the use of Ethernet over existing, unconditioned, telephone-grade wire Enables Ethernet to coexist with “plain old telephone service” (POTS), Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) or private branch exchange (PBX) signaling services Uses DSL coding and digital modulation techniques with Ethernet Provides a point-to-point transmission that can deliver a symmetrical, full duplex, data rate of up to 15 Mbps LRE products are simple to install and interface with any existing Ethernet solution Long range Ethernet (LRE), is an innovative technology that enables the use of Ethernet over existing, unconditioned, telephone-grade wire (copper twisted pair). The technology allows Ethernet LAN transmissions to coexist with either POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service), ISDN, or advanced PBX (Private Branch Exchange) signaling services over the same pair of ordinary copper wires. LRE technology uses the newest coding and digital modulation techniques from the DSL world in conjunction with Ethernet, the most popular LAN protocol. A LRE system provides a point-to-point transmission that can deliver a symmetrical, full duplex, raw data rate of Mbps over distances of up to 1 Mile (1.6 km). This easily provides a net 10 Mbps, in each direction. Products utilizing LRE technology are simple to install and interface easily with any existing Ethernet solution, to meet all present and future needs of enterprise managers, property managers, and consumers.

13 LRE Technology—Bandwidth
LRE technology can operate at up to 17 Mbps Enables transport of Ethernet data up to 15 Mbps Transport overhead does not reduce the Ethernet bandwidth LRE technology operates at a continuous raw symmetrical bi-directional data rate of 17 Mbps. This allows transport of Ethernet data up to 15 Mbps, in full duplex. The transport overhead does not reduce the Ethernet bandwidth and the system may thus be used totally transparently in an Ethernet network.

14 Standard xDSL Frequency Bands
Downstream-1 Downstream-2 Upstream-1 Upstream-2 138 kHz 5.2 MHz 12 MHz 3.75 MHz 8.5 MHz Upstream and downstream transmissions separated by frequency (FDD) 4 bands gives more flexibility for performance vs reach

15 LRE Frequency Bands Downstream TX - Switch RX - CPE Upstream RX - Switch TX - CPE 900 KHz 3.75 MHz 5.2 MHz 9 MHz Downstream band reduced to allow use of digital “SmartPhones” Upstream band may use standard frequencies or may use wider band for “private” installations Maximum data rates 15Mb/s full duplex (private) or 15/5 for standard installations

16 Summary of LRE Key Technology Features
Standard 10 Mbps Ethernet over regular twisted pair copper wire Distances of up to 4000 ft (1.2 km) at full-duplex 10 Mbps, 15 Mbps high-speed mode (3500 ft, 1 km) Simultaneous data and POTS, ISDN or PBX signaling services over the same line Utilizes the most advanced multi-QAM modulation techniques Minimum interference with other wire pairs and other services Full-duplex point-to-point transmission Longer distances can be reached at lower rates Low power-implementation, minimum heat-dissipation issues Supports testing and management capabilities LRE technology was developed by Savan Communications to answer customers’ immediate needs for high-speed access. Development and implementation of LRE technology has been guided by the emerging VDSL standards. The telecom partners recommendations and their noise and interference models in the FSAN, the DAVIC, the ETSI and ANSI VDSL standards committees, and the QAM VDSL Coalition have been used in the design process. LRE offers standard Ethernet capabilities over existing telephone-grade wire coexisting simultaneously with POTS, ISDN, or advanced PBX signaling. LRE technology is the combination of the best from the two worlds of VDSL and Ethernet. It provides full duplex 10 Mbps 10BaseT Ethernet over the telephone-grade wire infrastructure, up to distances of 1 Mile (1.6 km). No other technology available in the market today can offer such high-speed transmission over copper lines to similar distances. LRE is the easiest, most cost effective solution for LAN connectivity and extension today.
