Sound research production arts Katie Milne

RADIO MICROPHONE SENNHEISER EW100 They are much easier to move about on stage, less restricted. less wires on stage too, so its less messier. They are mainly used in live events or on stage in an. auditorium Now with infrared sync function, the SKM100-835 G3 can tune to a G3 receiver with a simple push of the receiver’s sync button. Compatible with EW100 G3 receivers and every vocal style, this hand-held transmitter/microphone combination provides wireless freedom to whoever uses it. You can get these for around £490.00 (P3) SENERIO: You'd use this microphone on a live show or gig, so that the presenter/artist can move about and isn't restricted to what he/she is doing as this sytem Is wireless no cables on stage (P3) http://en-uk.sennheiser.com/wireless-cardioid-microphone-dynamic-voice-reproduction-skm-100-835- g3

RADIO MICROPHONE SENNHEISER EW100 ADVANTAGES: The radio microphone is a great microphone for moving around the stage or the entire venue easily due to it not having a cable attached to the end of it. If you have multiple singers on stage with wired microphones you would need to run out a multicore, if you are using Radio Mics these can be patched in at the desk saving time in running a multicore and extra cables. DISADVANTAGES: Radio frequency's, so there can be any interference at any point They are battery powered so they can run out at any point Certain channels need to be licensed, so you have to buy a licence to be used More fragile than sm58, etc. More expensive per unit (M3)

AKG SE300B condenser mic. This microphone is very sensitive and can pick up from more of a distance than standard sm58’s and 57 microphones. Requires 48 volts to work. Switchable low-cut filter 10dB attenuation pad Low handling noise High resistance to RF interference Works with all CK-Series capsules found at approximately £150 new. (P3) SENERIO: Youd use this microphone to pick up instruments as it’s a condenser, you would use this to mic up Cymbals, youd use this on live gigs, and theatre productions(for the band). 5 AKG SE300B condenser mic. ADVANTAGES: Interchangeable capsules, which allow s you to change the polar pattern of the microphone depending on where you want to use it. Its quite small and compact, so looks better when on show It is very sensitive so can pick up sound from a further distance DISADVANTAGES: Its small and fragile, so if dropped it could be broken easily, interchangeable capsules could be easily broken or lost They can easily feedback because they are a condenser and pick up sounds from a distance They do cannot handle a high SPL (sound pressure level) like the Shure sm57 It needs 48 volts phantom power to work (M3)

Shure SM58 microphone Shure sm58 microphones are mainly used for vocals as its made from a cardioid pattern. Frequency response tailored for vocals, with brightened midrange and bass rolloff Uniform cardioid pickup pattern isolates the main sound source and minimizes background noise Pneumatic shock-mount system cuts down handling noise Effective, built-in spherical wind and pop filter Supplied with break-resistant stand adapter which rotates 180 degrees Legendary Shure quality, ruggedness and reliability Cardioid (unidirectional) dynamic Frequency response: 50 to 15,000 Hz £87.00 SENERIO:(P3) Youd use this microphone for gigs/events/live shows, as its specifically used for vocals. http://www.pmtonline.co.uk/shure-sm58-dynamic- microphone.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjwlYqoBRDajuaTvsyq1PQBEiQAEhSjnFUaYJ65yLeHuSxhvxttHFlFQsucVsQNmGDmj3o6CO4aAmFH8P 8HAQ

Shure SM58 microphone ADVANTAGES: It has a cardioid pickup pattern that isolates the main sound source and minimized background noise. Good for vocals because of the polar pattern built-in spherical wind and pop filter Sm58 is renowned for being a robust microphone DISADVANTAGES: Can be damaged if dropped Mainly used for vocals, not very good for instruments because of its polar pattern. Technology of the capsule has been around for a long time so hasn’t really advanced since the 1970’s In comparison to other microphones, it is relatively cheap (P3)

Shure SM57 microphone Mainly used for instruments cos it can deal with very high SPL (sound pressure levels). Contoured frequency response for clean, instrumental reproduction and rich vocal pickup Professional-quality reproduction for drum, percussion, and instrument amplifier miking Uniform cardioid pickup pattern isolates the main sound source while reducing background noise Pneumatic shock-mount system cuts down handling noise Extremely durable under the heaviest use Frequency response: 40 to 15,000 H(P3) SENERIO: Youd use this microphone to pick up instruments as its very sensitive, youd use this on live gigs, and theatre productions(for the band). https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF- 8#q=Shure+SM57+microphone&tbm=shop&spd=14446560875194134726

Shure sm57 microphone ADVANTAGE: Uniform cardioid pickup pattern isolates the main sound source while reducing background noise They have a high SPL (sound pressure level) Extremely durable under the heaviest use, Good for insruments DISADVANTAGES: Technology of the capsule has been around for a long time so hasn’t really advanced since the 1970’s In comparison to other microphones, it is relatively cheap Mainly used for instruments, doesn’t work as well with vocals like the shure sm58 would (P3)

QSC K12 speakers The sub and base bins (top and bottom speakers) are both connected together and then to the desk by the XLR. 75° Nominal coverage angle Maximum SPL 131 dB peak 1000-watt continuous Class D power modules in all models On-board mixer with two combo XLR and ¼” inputs, and stereo RCA inputs, (three audio input sources); two direct channel outputs and single summed balanced output(P3) SENERIO: You'd use this for any event that has microphones or music. http://qsc.com/products/loudspeakers/k_series/K12/

QSC K12 speakers ADVANTAGES: Small light and compact, easy to travel with Built in amp no need for an external amp Easy to set up and get working in a matter of minutes DISADVANTAGES: If in the built in amp was to break the speaker would not be able to work, and would be harder to fix Its size would not be good for bigger audiences as its not very big Its quite expensive for a small system As its active you haveto run power to it wheras the passive you only need one lead (P3)

Yamaha LS9-32 Digital Mixer Yamaha SB168-ES ETHERSOUND Yamaha LS9-16 mixing console Yamaha LS9-32 mixing console Yamaha DANTE-MY16-AUD Yamaha MY16ES64 The Yamaha LS9 sound desk is a digital sound mixer desk. You can programme and save everything you’ve set so you can go to a performance and just get up what you’ve saved instead of programming everything while the performance is on.(P3) SENERIO: You'd use this for any event that had a band, music or microphones because it is how you control and monitor the sound. (P3) http://www.yamahaproaudio.com/global/en/products/mixers/ls9/

Yamaha LS9-32 Digital Mixer ADVANTAGES: It is a digital desk so you can pre program stuff and then save it It is compact and light so that it easy to move around and one person can take it somewhere and easily set it up themselves Built in USB memory recorder/player for recording or BGM player DISADVANTAGES: If something was to break or if the computer was to crash, you could loose the work that you would of saved on there (P3)
