Open Telecom, Inc. (Freelz Wheelchair Controller) October, 2008 WELCOME!

Open Telecom, Inc. 1 Teeth-clenching data acquisition system & power wheelchair control Teeth-clenching data acquisition system & power wheelchair control Original Technology developed by Korean institute Commercializing & upgrade by Open Telecom Marketing by Open Telecom (www.open-telecom.com) Original Technology developed by Korean institute Commercializing & upgrade by Open Telecom Marketing by Open Telecom (www.open-telecom.com) IT integrated power wheelchair

Open Telecom, Inc. 2 Contents ---------------------------------------------- 1. Technology overview 2. Comparison with the others 3. Technology 4. EMG-Power wheelchair 5. EMG-Tetris game 6. Market

Open Telecom, Inc. 3 1. Technology overview ○ Utilizing EMG signals from teeth-clenching, users are able to operate computers, electronic devices and power wheelchairs. (EMG:bioelectric signal generated by muscle use) ○ Using this technology, commercial products can be developed for the various applications. ○ Short-term Target products : Wireless control power wheelchairs, PW control modules, User training games ○ Long-term Target products : Games, information input devices, computers

Open Telecom, Inc. 4 2. Handicapped in the spinal cord ○ The spinal cord : Located in spine. Between the cervical vertebrae 1 and the lumbar 1, 2. Major data path between brain and body. ○ Heavily handicapped in spinal cord : The spinal cord in no.4 or no.5 of the cervical vertebrae is damaged, and can’t use both legs and hands ===  ○ Very limited to do rehabilitation ○ Required to have indirect control of mobility aids or IT devices

Open Telecom, Inc. 5 3. Comparison with the others Power wheelchair control using breath : Breath is not related with power wheelchair directly. Taking long time to use it. Our technology is using the movement of teeth and chin(teeth-clenching), and it gives direct control to the moving direction of power wheelchair. In addition, supporter can control power wheelchair for the user within some distance.

Open Telecom, Inc. 3.1 Existing product Input Devices Who hasn't wished for more freedom? Our input devices let you control your wheelchair just as you like, making you independent and mobile again. Suck and blow control The wheelchair remains directly steerable; due to the continued mode, a signal is only required for a necessary change of direction. Chin control The complete chin control can be moved behind the seat by means of a swivel arm; swiveling, On/Off and MODE are activated by means of a separate multifunction switch Foot control Can be used in 3-switch or 5-switch mode; the continued mode makes control of the wheelchair easier for the user; all functions can be activated. 5-button keyboard control Large-surface touch sensors for MODE and driving direction as 5-switch mode. Buddy Button Freely positionable function/driving keys for entering driving signals and/or menu navigation. Calibratable mini joystick Calibration can be activated at any time by the user; self-control by means of force vectors and movement vectors display on the LCD.6

Open Telecom, Inc. 3.2 Practice of suck & blow (Sip & puff)7

Open Telecom, Inc. 3.3 Practice of chin control8

Open Telecom, Inc. 3.4 Practice of Vision sensors & GPS9

Open Telecom, Inc. 3.5 Practice of EMG signals from teeth10

Open Telecom, Inc. 3.6 Comparison(Breath and EMG-teeth) ○ Practice of heavily handicapped people in spinal cord (no.4 or no.5 of the cervical vertebrae is damaged, and can’t use both legs and hands). 10 people in tests. ○ Speed of powerchair : 0.4m / sec ○ Test : Passing test path, and checking the time and driving suite errors If the user is out of the path more than 3 times, don’t count in test results(2 people)11

Open Telecom, Inc. 3.7 Test results Teeth-clenching control way had 22% less driving time and 56% less driving error out of path12

Open Telecom, Inc. 13 4. Technology, patents & copyrights 1) 1)Sensor, data acquisition wireless devices and programs  Integrated in headset kit 2) 2)Mouse & keyboard control program using teeth-clenching  Can be loaded to notebook or special control panel module for power wheelchair 3) 3)Interface system between control panel module and joystick controller  Supplied as system set which can be installed 4) 4)Embedded OS based data acquisition & power wheelchair control system  Supplied as special control panel module based on specific joystick controller

Open Telecom, Inc. 14 4.1 EMG : ElectroMyoGram) EMG is bio-electric signal generated by using muscles - -Measured with various noise. Stable differential signal. - -Easy to acquire from skin. - -Signal processing is easier than eyeball-movement or brain waves

Open Telecom, Inc. 15 4.2 EMG Data Acquisition - -Basic movement: Teeth-clenching - -Easy-to-do - -Not easy to be exposed to others - -Electrodes on temporalis muscle - -Headband or cap types design

Open Telecom, Inc. 16 4.3 EMG-Power Wheelchair

17 4.4 Power Wheelchair Control - Basic movement : Left-teeth, right-teeth, both-teeth - Control when it is stopped Left-teeth clenching : Left-turn slowly Right-teeth clenching : Right-turn slowly Both-teeth clenching twice : Switch from forward to backward, backward to forward Both-teeth clenching long(more than 2 seconds) : Moving forward or backward - Control when it is moving forward Left-teeth clenching shortly : Left-turn slowly Right-teeth clenching shortly : Right-turn slowly Left-teeth clenching long(more than 2 seconds) : Quick left-turn Right-teeth clenching long(more than 2 seconds) : Quick right-turn Both-teeth clenching : Stop

Open Telecom, Inc. 18 5. EMG-Tetris game- practicing users 1) 1)Wireless data transmission part (Green LED) 2) 2)EMG sensors (Left & right) 3) 3)Ground part (Center) 4) 4)EMG-Tetris program 5) 5)Serial : Initiating the program 6) 6)Load up : Test program selection 7) 7)Start the program 1 2 5 6 7 8 3 1) 1)Left tooth clenching shortly : Move left 2) 2)Right tooth clenching shortly : Move right 3) 3)Both teeth clenching shortly : Rotate 4) 4)Both teeth clenching long(1 second) : Drop 5) 5)Left tooth clenching long(2 seconds) : Restart

Open Telecom, Inc. 19 6. Market Control device makers Power wheelchair & joystick controller makers Potentials - -Heavily hands & legs handicapped people : 30,000 in Korea, about 3 million people worldwide - -Auxiliary potable input devices with portability : Meets the need in era of ubiquitous - -Games without hand operation of keyboard or mouse
