Green Solutions In our school district schools are currently using Styrofoam trays which are harmful in many ways.
Disadvantages of Styrofoam Styrofoam contains a known Carcinogen Styrofoam is not bio-degradable Styrofoam is also non recyclable Chemicals in Styrofoam can leech into food and harm humans
Advantages of Going Green Styrofoam alternatives are recyclable These alternatives are also bio- degradable These alternatives do not contain any harmful chemicals
Solution 1 We have developed two alternatives to using Styrofoam. Solution number one includes using plastic trays and reusing them.
Solution 1 continued We at Seckman Middle School made solution 1 work, by having kids wash the dishes and earning incentives.
Solution 2 Our second solution includes buying Bagasse trays which are recyclable and bio-degradable and very comparable in cost. These trays are available for purchase at www.worldcentric.org. www.worldcentric.org
Cost Analysis The Projected savings for the café per average 174 day year by switching to plastic trays is $5568 On an average day we are saving $27 In an average week we will save $160 In an average month, $618.66
Trash Cost Analysis If we use QRS recycling we will save a projected $11.33 a week in trash cost.
