3
Jesus the Christ the Messiah nTnToday’s Focus: Jesus held 3 offices (jobs) on earth which give you and me the greatest comfort.
4
Where do we get the idea that Jesus held offices? n We see that Jesus held offices from his titles of Christ & Messiah - Christ In Greek Means Anointed One - Messiah in Hebrew also Means Anointed One (Acts 10:38 & Matthew 3:16)
5
We see from Scripture that Jesus was anointed to be Prophet, Priest, and King
6
Jesus as Prophet Jesus as Prophet n Let’s take a look at what it means to be a prophet… n 1 Kings 19:16 n Jeremiah 1:7 n Luke 8:1 n Deuteronomy 18:15
7
Finish the statement: One office that Jesus had... One office that Jesus had was to be a prophet who tells about God’s salvation for us in himself. One office that Jesus had was to be a prophet who tells about God’s salvation for us in himself.

Consider This Story... John and Fred began to talk about Jesus during their school lunch. John mentioned that Jesus was the Savior of the world, and Jesus saved Fred too. Fred replied, “I believe Jesus was a great prophet but he wasn’t the Savior.” What might you say to Fred? Could Jesus be a prophet and not the Savior?
9
A: As the Prophet, Jesus came to tell the good news about himself, that he was the Savior of the world. His being the Prophet depended on his fulfilling his role as the Savior. He therefore had to be the Savior so that the message he preached as the Prophet would be true.
10
Jesus Also Was Priest n Let’s take a look at the role of priests… n Exodus 30:30 n Hebrews 5:1 n Hebrews 9:24 & 26
11
How Might We Summarize Jesus As Priest? A Second Office Jesus had was to be the…...priest who appears before God on our behalf and offered himself as the sacrifice to take all sin away.
12
Agree or Disagree Every time we read about an Old Testament priest, prophet, or king for that matter, we can think about Jesus Christ in the New Testament.
13
A: The main reason the accounts about OT priests, prophets, and kings are included in the Bible is historical. These accounts tell us how God in his love carried out his plan of salvation down through the many years. But it is also proper for us to think about Jesus each time we read about an OT prophet, priest, or king. This is true because each of these accounts was also a picture for the OT believers of what the Messiah to come would do for them.
14
Jesus King of Kings
15
What does Jesus do that makes him King... n 1 Samuel 8:20 n Romans 14:9 n Luke 17:20-21
16
Finish this thought... A third office Jesus had was to be…...the King who fought our enemies, won eternal life for us, and rules in our hearts. (King of Kings)
17
