People were expected to observe certain traditions that their social class dictated, one of the oldest traditions being arranged marriage. I think arranged marriage is not a bad practice and is sometimes necessary. The most important reason why I think arranged marriage is necessary is because it has existed in various cultures for hundreds of years. Ancient society was made up of different social classes. Arranged marriages were done during those times so that people from different classes would not inter-marry. This was to preserve the purity of the social class they belonged to. Another reason is that arranged marriage was used to settle issues between families, such as in instances where people would marry off their children in exchange for forgiving debts or settling land disputes. Most modern societies do not have the same social classes as before. I think that arranged marriages should be up to the families and individual to decide. In my personal opinion, people who are born in those kinds of societies are still obligated to follow their traditions. People who come from similar backgrounds and cultures are able to form a comfortable relationship as husband and wife. However, the society I live in is not divided into different classes; I can choose a spouse for myself, but I think the most important thing is to choose the right person to spend the rest of my life with. Whether it is through an arranged marriage or through developing personal relationships, I don’t mind what happens as long as I will be with the best person for me. I know that times have changed and that a lot of people feel that love should be the main reason for marriage. That being said, we still need to accept arranged marriages as part of some cultures. We should respect the people who still practice this tradition.

How can a country where typical parents are ashamed of their daughter studying mathematics instead of going dancing, or of their son reading Weber while his friends play baseball be expected to compete in the technology race with Japan? average 是 “ 一般,平均 " 的意思,而 typical 作 ” 典型 “ 解,它们只能算是近义词,但这里表 示的是一个意思。把它们互换一下位置就可得到证明。 再如: ” 失业 “ ( unemployment , jobless )、 ” 许多 “ ( many , enormous , large numbers of )、 ” 人 “ ( people , individuals )可以说是同义词。而 ” 问题 “ ( problems , trouble ); ” 经 济拮据 “ ( financial cares , financial pressures )则是近义词。
