Navigate to https://www.dropbox.com/ https://www.dropbox.com/ and click on the download button in the top right hand corner.

This window will pop up. Make sure you save the file to a folder that you can find later on. (Your desktop will work fine) Once it is finished downloading. Double click on the icon, wherever you saved it. This window should pop up. Click on ‘Run’ to begin the installation process.

Dropbox is ready to being the installation process on your computer. Click ‘Install’ to allow the software to be installed.

Now Dropbox is going to ask you a few questions. Since we created accounts early in the year, we can choose the option saying ‘I already have a Dropbox account’

At this page, enter your WHRHS email address and the password you chose when creating the account. Label the computer name accordingly.

For most, the typical setup is fine. If you have a specific location you would like to have your dropbox folder placed, choose advanced setup and follow the instructions.

Dropbox is now configured. If you are unfamiliar with how Dropbox works, go through the tour. It is very short and will give you a rundown of how it works.

There are a few things to know about Dropbox before you start using it. You probably noticed that you have a Dropbox icon now in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. This is a shortcut to the Dropbox folder that uploads documents to the web. You will notice that it, as well as the files and folders in it, can be in different states. They are described to the left. The folder contains files that are currently uploading to or downloading from the web to update to the most recent version. It is synchronizing with your Dropbox account to make sure the file is the most recently updated. The folder contains files that are synced (the most updated versions of those files) Dropbox is changing its contents to be the most updated according to your account Dropbox contains folders/files that are synced (the most updated versions of those files)

Once you see that the Dropbox icon is updated, double click on it. This will open a folder with all of the contents in your Dropbox account. This folder acts like any other folder on your computer, except for the fact that anything placed in it will upload to your Dropbox account. It is important that you don’t open a file until it has the green check next to it! Notice that you now have a Dropbox icon here as well. When you save documents in any program, you can put them directly into your dropbox folder.

Now that you have Dropbox set up on both your home and school computer, you can open and work on files directly from your Dropbox folder, and you won’t have to worry about emailing it back and forth, or which file is the most up-to-date. Using Dropbox this way is like having the same folder exist on two computers. So, when you want to work on a file, these are the steps you should take. 1.Double click on the Dropbox icon. 2.Open the file that you wish to work on. 3.As you work, make sure you are continuously saving the document (CTRL + S). When you save, you will see the Dropbox Icon go from this to this. That is because your newly saved file is uploading to Dropbox, so it can be accessed from another computer. 4.After you save, close the folder. 5.That is it! No need to email yourself the new file. If you want to confirm that the file was successfully uploaded, you could always go to www.dropbox.com and download the file to make sure it is the correct one. www.dropbox.com So, when you want to work on a file, these are the steps you should take. 1.Double click on the Dropbox icon. 2.Open the file that you wish to work on. 3.As you work, make sure you are continuously saving the document (CTRL + S).
