Learning objective: To punctuate our sentences accurately. DO NOW: Find the mistakes and correct the punctuation for the text you have been given.

Mark your partners work. Once upon a time there was a class called 9DG. They were fun to teach but they were hard work. One day, a little while ago, a teacher called Mrs Luke arrived in Christchurch. She was weird. Although Mrs Luke was a teacher, she acted like a child. This made 9DG laugh a lot. After a while, Mrs Luke started to give prizes for good work. This made 9DG feel great and they became very, very brainy. 

How do we know when to add a punctuation mark? Write a rule that the class can follow FULLSTOP. EXLAMATION MARK ! CAPITAL LETTER ABC COMMA, QUESTION MARK ?

You need a full stop when the group of clauses (dudes) is finished Often you need a comma to separate main phrases (big dudes) from sub clauses (little dudes.) Although I am a teacher, I am a messy person and I am a disorganised person, which is annoying. You need a capital letter at the start of a group of clauses (dudes).

Put the punctuation and dudes in the right places on the sentence. if I let you go out will you behave you are a naughty girl the boy who loved the girl was a happy guy I love chocolate even though it is bad for me stop that right now unless a solution can be found I will have to ring home NOW LABEL THE SENTENCES WITH THEIR TYPE. WHICH ARE THE HARDEST TO FIGURE OUT?

Learning objective: To punctuate our sentences accurately. DO NOW: Define a main clause (big dude) and sub clause (little dude). Write a sentence defining each in your book.

Rewrite this correctly using the rules we have created. i am loving teaching this class although it is a bit noisy sometimes some of my students are starting to shine like stars i love it do you in addition to this i would like to say that their sentence variation is improving and hopefully we will build their punctuation skills too NOW ADD THE MAIN AND SUB CLAUSES ( BIG AND LITTLE DUDES) YOU CAN DESIGN YOUR OWN OR USE STICK MEN.

How did you do? I am loving teaching this class, although it is a bit noisy sometimes. Some of my students are starting to shine like stars. I love it! Do you? In addition to this, I would like to say that their sentence variation is improving and, hopefully, we will build their punctuation skills too.

Create the rules. Be the teacher – create a powerpoint which shows the rules for punctuation. What are the rules for main clauses (big dudes) and sub clauses (little dudes) in a sentence? What are the rules for commas? What are the rules for full stops? What are the rules for exclamation marks and question marks?

Success criteria

What do you have to do to be successful? ENGLISH SUCCESS  You must have 5 rules.  Each rule must have at least one example.  You must show clauses (dudes) on your work.  You should plan activity for the class to practise their skills and to learn your rules.  You might devise ways of remembering the rules ICT SUCCESS  You should have one rule per slide  You should use colour to make your work accessible to visual learners.  You should have moving parts.
