The Use of Deciduous Woodlands Aims To look at past and present uses of the Temperate Deciduous woodland ecosystems. To understand why there has been increased felling of Temperate Deciduous Woodlands.
Temperate deciduous woodlands are used for timber and timber products along with recreation and conservation. Timber has many uses including construction and timber products including furniture and paper. It can also be used as fuel. There are many recreational uses of deciduous woodlands including orienteering, horse riding, mountain biking. It is important that areas of temperate deciduous woodland are used carefully and that they are managed and maintained as a natural environment for future generations. This is called conservation. See notes on Epping Forest case study.
The temperate deciduous woodland ecosystem is in balance with nature but human influence all over the world are altering and even damaging the ecosystem. Many of these forests are being cleared to make way for development e.g. farming, village settlement and fuel in early times and roads and recreation in more recent times.
