3 Intent of this work “Clean-up” existing documents On-going work; expect to see additional codes added in CCMS (distance learning, Virtual Arkansas, etc.) Updated forms will reflect the most recent date Removed or discontinued codes will be phased out over time

4 Curriculum Frameworks Basis for everything we do! Found at - under curriculum frameworkswww.arkansased.org If there are no curriculum frameworks for a course that your district/school wishes to count towards the required 22 units, you should submit a course approval Courses that fall under the umbrella of ACE, concurrent credit, AP, IB, EAST, etc., do not require individual course approval, but may require program approval Local credit only explanation

District/School must verify licensure!

7 Course codes – Programs No course codes for curriculum used to teach courses based on our frameworks, such as ARISE, Pacesetter, Core-Plus Use the course code for the framework Example: Core-Plus – is Algebra I – ARISE – is Algebra 1 – SIMMS – is Algebra

13 Course codes – Civics, Civics/American Government Standards require schools to teach ½ unit of Civics – If a school wishes to teach 1 unit of Civics, should use course code – framework renamed CIVICS Course code and framework for Civics/American Government are being phased out because of the change in Smart Core/Core requirements

14 Course Codes – EAST East I – East II – East III – East IV – *These courses start with a 5, not because they require ADE approval, but they do require approval to teach ; refer to the numbering document

16 Course Codes – AP English Literature and Composition & AP English Language and Composition AP and ADE Gifted Program Recommendations: – AP English Language and Composition may be taken in grades 11 or – AP English Literature and Composition may be taken in grades 11 or 12; recommended after AP English Language and Composition Neither are approved for English credit towards graduation below grade 11; see Course Code list
