Review: Week 1 1.Music is a “hot button” with many Christians today. 2.Music is becoming a “personal god.” 3.Music invades our culture in ways never known to mankind. 4.Music is a very Biblical matter. God has tons to say about music.

Review: Week 2  Music is the gauge by which you can determine what the world is pursuing.  Amoral- “being neither moral nor immoral” (Webster Dictionary)  Many people believe that music is amoral (neutral) (non-emotional). “The sound doesn’t effect me, just the lyrics.”  This is where CCM supporters go wrong. They believe that music is neutral and that the lyrics justify the worldly music style.  Proof: Practically, Worldly, Biblically

Review: Week 3  Many Rock artists emphasize and build music around the rhythm.  Satan’s Mission: To exalt himself above God.  Many Christians don’t really believe that the devil is real.  Turn to 2 Cor. 11:14-15

Satan wants to pervert God’s music! “Satan is one of the chief promoters of Christian Music” GOD

CCM CCM

quote Music is a language and therefore can communicate with your FLESH or SPIRIT.

CCM Defined:  What is “CCM”?  Contemporary Christian Music  “current; modern; of the same time or age”  There is nothing wrong with new…  …however it is wrong when it disobeys God’s commandments in the Bible.

Facts on CCM:  Many are choosing churches based on musical preference, instead of Biblical preaching, that should be a red flag that music is your king.  Never before has music played this big of a role in churches today. Only in the last 50 years has this been a “issue.”  Our personal taste of music (i.e. style, type) has become so elevated that it sets the standard and overrules Biblical thinking.  “…our personal tastes have become the standard by which we discern the acceptability and spiritually value of all music.” (Music Matters, pg 29)

Chart: Chart: Frontline Magazine, Dan Lucarini What is the primary purpose of the worship service? To prepare hearts for the preaching To usher people into the presence of God. What tends to be emphasized? The preaching The music experience What is the primary motive in selecting music? Will God like it? Do the people like it? What is the primary indicator of a successful service? I was really convicted by the Word of God today! (truth-based) I really worshipped God today! (experience-based) TraditionalContemporary

CCM: What’s the big deal?!  Why do some Churches, Pastors, Schools, Organizations, etc. make such a big deal about Contemporary Christian Music?

Here it is…  CCMers disobey God’s commandment on separation.  Turn to 1 Peter 1:14-16  Fashioning-“to form or mold after something”  From English word “schema”- which means “plan, diagram, scheme, or process”  As a born again Christian you are living in a “new mold which forms the lifestyle of the believer is the holiness of God.” (Fred Mortiz, pg 23 “Be Ye Holy”)  “Natural birth produces a desire in children to be like their parents. The new birth (salvation) plants within the child of God a desire to be like his heavenly Father.” (Fred Mortiz, pg, 22)

Here it is…  CCMers disobey God’s commandment on separation.  Turn to Romans 12:2  Conformed- same meaning as “fashioning”  Turn to Galatians 1:10  Turn to James 4:4  Turn to 1 John 2:15-16

The Slippery Slope CCM A Bible Believing, Non conforming, Pure, Biblical Church. Becoming A Bible Believing, World conforming, Seeker friendly Church. Maybe a Bible Believing Church, but no longer a church that obeys Romans 12:2; 1 Peter 1:14-15. This church has become a worldly, seeker friendly church and no longer protects the purity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but does what is best for the person, not GOD! Stay away from churches like this!

“Perhaps contemporary believers put too much emphasis on Christian rather than Christ.” -Fisher, pg 19

What CCM is producing:  “Music always produces a lifestyle”  Producing laid-back Christians.  Producing world-conforming Christians.  Producing entertainment-minded Christians.  Producing shallow Christians.  Many Christians, like you, are buying into this brand of Christianity.

Like the SpiritLike the World “We need to tailor our music and message to the problems of today’s world. We need to reach out to the people where they are.” CCM What happened?

The world has been permitted to have a voice on how to worship and live for God. What a tragedy!

Conclusion:  CCM is diluting Biblical Christianity!  CCM disobeys the Bible because it conforms to the world.  Rom 12:2; Gal. 1:10; 1 Pet. 1:14-16; Jam 4:4; 1Jh. 2:15-16  Please turn to 1 Peter 2:9-11  Next week
