3 Tips for creating a good questionnaire: O Use simple language O Avoid jargon O Keep questions short and specific O Avoid ambiguities O Avoid double-barrelled questions (“and”, “or”) O Avoid double negatives O Do not overload the respondent's memory O Avoid hypothetical questions O Do not make assumptions

4 Tips for increasing response rates: O Design a questionnaire that is easy to navigate O Clear questions and structure the questionnaire in sections O Do not ask too many questions – attention is limited O If you have to ask many questions, state the number of questions beforehand O Stress anonymity of the questionnaire O Make the e-mail request personal. Genuine request – do not spam! O Send reminders to people who have not responded O Add additional info (pages left, percentage completed)

Installing Survey Software: O Requirements to install the survey (MySQL, PHP, 60 MB web space) O Create MySQL database O Download survey software on computer O Upload the survey on webserver and extract it O Change folder permissions (7-5-5) O Edit survey configurations and create admin account O Connect survey software with database O Login and change password

Creating the First Survey: O Change settings of survey (languages, title, description, theme, start/end date, cookies, e-mail notification ) O Create question groups to represent pages of survey O Create questions and set type of question (yes/no) O Add label sets for questions O Test the survey before activating it O Browse summary of responses

7 4. Using Tokens: O Useful for using e-mail scripts O Change the survey to closed-group mode O Add token entries (name, e-mail) O Edit the e-mail scripts O Send the e-mail invitations O Delete the tokens table to allow for survey to be public again

Adding Conditional Statements: O Useful for adding conditions to questions that depend on previous answer O Add additional question and edit the conditions O Select Comparison operators (and, or) O Possibility to add more than one conditional statement O Can be used as screening question at beginning

Styling the Survey: O Knowledge of HTML and CSS required O Copy the template and create a new one O Edit the CSS files to changing the style of the survey (colours, background) O Edit the HTML files to change the content of the survey (progress bar, buttons, titles) O Possibility to edit the files without the template editor, manually

10 7. Collecting Data: O Can collect data using tokens O Possibility to use e-mail scripts to send mass e- mails with one click O Can collect data from different social networks (Facebook, Twitter) O Be friendly, personal avoid spamming O Consider shortening the length of URL (www.bit.ly)

Exporting and Analysing Data: O View summary of responses within LimeSurvey O Possibility to display responses within LimeSurvey in text format or HTML format O Can create pie charts from the responses O Recommended to export responses to MS Excel O Edit data to produce meaningful findings. Consider splitting into categories O Create visual graphs from data (bar charts) O Draw conclusions based on analysis
