Jefferson: Our 3 rd President Elected in 1800: a bloodless revolution that shifted power from Federalists to Republicans The Electoral College tied and the House of Representatives voted to break the tie As the first Republican president Jefferson decreased the size of government and ended many federalist programs
Marbury vs. Madison Jefferson did not want to honor Adams’ last minute appointments The Supreme Court, under Chief Justice John Marshall, declared this unconstitutional and established Judicial Review.
The Louisiana Purchase Purchased from France for $15 million Gave the US control of New Orleans and the Mississippi River Doubled the size of the US. Went against Jefferson’s belief of a strict construction of the Constitution Gave US greater control of North America
