5 Life abroad: difficult things Sometimes, little things we could normally handle become overwhelming, because we are away from our normal lives and support systems This, along with the big changes of living away and trying to adapt to a new environment can make us experience something you’ve probably heard of:

6 Culture Shock: How will I know? Usually, culture shock feels kind of like this:

7 Help, I think I have culture shock! Culture shock isn’t something you can prevent, but you can overcome it and feel better! Some things to try: Join the Students’ Union Make a Newcastle “bucket list” Make an effort to spend time with your flatmates Help share your heritage with others Remember: no one expects you to be perfect! We all make mistakes, and it helps to laugh about it. Make connections with local people and local places
