Why Counter Flow is always better than Cross Flow. Page 1 based on Practical ( Important points to be consider before buying) A)   National Induced Draft Counter Flow Cooling Tower:- A) Other Cross Flow Cooling Tower In the Induced Draft Counter Flow, always the dry air is in contact with the cool water emerging out from the PVC fills. That means when the air passes through the PVC fills the proper water to air contact occurs and the water evaporate. Thus it loses it heat energy and the moist air is thrown out which will not be re-circulating because the total height of the cooling tower is maintained for the fresh air to flow from the bottom. It is a known fact that the cross flow cooling towers have the air entry from sides throughout & the distribution pans kept above the heat transfer area from the pan the hot water flow through the holes provided. The first layer of hot water which is falling down get in contact with the fresh dry air. It then extracts heat from the hot water and becomes moist and allows hot water to evaporate. Then hot water loses its heat and is collected in the basin. The second layer of hot water which is also flowing from the pan comes in contact with the same air which is moist and is with higher temperature. The rate of evaporation decreases and the water is not collected to the design outlet temperature because the approach decreases inside the cooling tower which effects the other layers of water & as the air passes inside the efficiency decreases & when the cold water is collected from the basin the temperature of water shall be the mean temperature of all the layers. Induced Draft Counter Flow Cooling Tower:-The moist air thrown out through the fan stack takes a chance in re-circulating through the air entry sides because of high velocity and the low fan stack height. So always cross flow cooling towers does towers does require higher installed power then counter flow cooling tower. NATIONAL Cooling Tower required 1Ft. to 3Ft. clear space on each side. This increase maintenance of the towers and the static pressure drop. Also the louvers are prone to breakage and therefore have to be replaced. NATIONAL do not have water distribution exposed to the atmosphere. Cross flow cooling towers have water distribution on top & header type which is exposed to sun. Due to this, chances of algae formation are increased. Also because of the exposed water distribution, dust tends to settle on the top and is circulated with cooling water. The dust and algae tend to depositing in air condenser chiller and compressor jackets, affecting heat transfer whereby discharge pressure will be more effects the performance of the air-conditioning plants. NATIONAL Cooling Towers have Two inspection cum service windows. Through these windows the water spray and the PVC Fills packs can be observed and corrective action if required can be taken immediately. Through these windows packs can be removed easily for cleaning without disturbing the casing of the tower. The removal of packs in cross flow cooling tower is very cumbersome & time consuming. COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN Square Shaped and Bottle or Round Shape Cooling Towers SQUARE SHAPED BOTTLE (ROUND) SHAPED National design Cooling Tower is ONE peace mould construction. Square shaped the uniform thickness are maintained. We provide Pyramid type dome. No. of segments are 10 to 12 and above casing. These segments are bottled shaped and neck type dome there are always possibilities of uneven thickness of casing. Fix header water distribution system has uniform water distribution without loosing the pressure dropped due to fixed header system. No tension bar and no Ball Bearing are required. The round shaped Cooling Tower consists of Rotary Sprinkler assembly with Ball Bearing System and Metal Tension Bar. The Cooling Tower water always contaminated with CaCo3. Due to contaminated water the bearings are likely to get jammed, corroded, worn out faster and over a period of used the tension of spring also get loose and its likely the reduces the desired ROTATION. Fix header water distribution system with water inlet on the top and outlet in the basin is easy to maintain within limited time. The water distribution system is on the bottom. Installation of Bottled shaped Cooling Tower are provided with V bar metal support and in turn the V bar metal support are rested on RCC Pillars, Leaving the entire Cooling Tower hanging above the RCC Surface floor with the result the chances of vibrations are more. To maintain Square Shaped Cooling Tower any of your workers can do the job due to the simple system. You need to call trained personnel of Cooling Tower Company only. Nozzles are provided with 2.5” Diameter the turbulence effect for water spray is absolute uniform over the Fills area. No possibilities of air pocket development. With Rotary system water is just dropping from PVC Arm pipes with thick layer of water without getting water sprayed over the fills area, the chances of air pocket developments are maximum. To place the fills on round shaped is uneven and to fill the gap the fills segments are cut and placed with the result its likely that air pockets develop and as a result Tower efficiency is reduced. Maintenance is easy due to easy access through window and can be carried out even when the Tower is in operation. Maintenance is difficult due to fixed system of all components. No window is provided. Maintenance job cannot be carried out while the Tower is in operation.
