2 SOLE Workforce Development, FIPT, 11-28-05 2 SOLE’s Educational Imperative “Logistics Management Professionalization Guide” –Published in 2005, the guide provides a recommended baseline for the educational courses and training necessary to expand the knowledge/capability/performance of logisticians Developed in response to the need in industry and government worldwide for a comprehensive career path that culminates in SOLE certification Establishes recommended baselines for –Foundation competencies –Professional Development Training –Individual Skill Area Rounds out SOLE’s designation and certification programs –Builds upon a 30+ year internationally-recognized and respected educational and professional development focus and record of achievement SOLE - The International Society of Logistics is a non-profit, international professional society devoted to scientific, educational and literary endeavors to enhance the art and science of logistics technology, education and management.

Demonstrated professional experience Nine years practicing or teaching logistics Two years experience in each of two logistics fields Education may be equated to experience –BS and five years experience –MS and four years experience –Ph.D. and three years experience Recommended by management and approved by SOLE’s Qualification Review Board to sit for the examination

17 SOLE Workforce Development, FIPT, 11-28-05 17 Initiatives With Academia Development of Academic Graduate Programs –Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Graduate Program in Logistics and Supply Chain Management –SOLE originally helped develop/establish the undergraduate logistics program; new program will be in their school of extended graduate studies Masters Degree in Life Cycle Logistics –In conjunction with academia, US DoD, and industry develop and sponsor an educational program designed to produce tomorrow’s life cycle logisticians Focus on the melding of engineering, systems design, acquisition and support by inculcation of life cycle supportability and logistics engineering 24-month program –Concurrent internship with DoD/industry and course work (extended studies) –Educational and Placement (e.g., industry/DoD) mentors –Last six months devoted to research studies Paid internship (e.g., industry host) DoD/commercial experiential assignments throughout the internship SOLE scholarships to schools for selection/award/management Target for initial program placements – Fall 2006/Spring 2007 –Concurrent award of CPL upon successful completion of program

18 SOLE Workforce Development, FIPT, 11-28-05 18 SOLE’s International Initiatives Taiwan Ministry of National Defense (MND) Workforce Development –Invited by DUSD (AT&L) to be part of a US Delegation in October-November 2005 Participation in the MND/AT&L Logistics Symposium –Will meet separately with MND/LP&P/Acquisition Board Management Division/National Defense University to discuss workforce development and lay groundwork for establishment of program Australian Department of Defence (DMO) Workforce Development –SOLE’s Designation and Certification Programs included in the Australian Management Institute’s (AMI) response to a Request for Tender for the professionalization and development of the DMO acquisition/logistics workforce Outgrowth of the Commonwealth of Australia’s Defence White Paper, Defence 2000 – Our Future Defence Force Central strategy is the DMO Professional Agenda –6,500 people over 50 sites throughout Australia and overseas –Goal is to provide a range of professional development activities to meet future skill sets and increase the professional standing of the DMO –The major elements are the certification and chartering of workforce competence against the highest professional standards available; ongoing professional development; and up-skilling as achieved through accredited education and training programs –If the tender is accepted, SOLE will participate through a formal agreement with AMI National University of Athens Distance Learning Curriculum Development –In conjunction with UNICON, develop a distance learning logistics engineering curriculum Goal is to formalize comprehensive coverage of the logistics body of knowledge so as to facilitate attainment of the CPL Designed to ensure that those participating students from the Hellenic Ministry of Defense organizations receive education comparable to that of their NATO/US Defense counterparts.
