5 Institutional Responsibilities: Utah Monocular UHECR Spectrum Analysis. Stereo UHECR spectrum analysis. UHECR Composition Analysis. UHE Anisotropy analysis. Search for Exotic Showers. Measurement of UHE proton-air cross section. Coordination of HiRes activities with U.S. Army. Coordination of Dugway access for detector maintenance. Coordination of detector operations.

Data handling and level 0-3 Processing. –Maintenance of data processing farm. –Maintenance of standard processing scripts –Actual operation of data processing chain Maintenance of HiRes-1 detector system. –repair/replacement of electronic modules –maintenance of local area network (LAN) at HiRes-1. –maintenance of data acquisition computers. –Maintenance of data acquisition software at Hires-1.

Calibration of HiRes-1 Detector –laser + flasher + misc. hardware maintenance. –Monthly xenon flasher runs –Data analysis and calibration constants extraction –Maintenance and operation of PMT calibration and scanning facility

Maintenance and continuing development of HiRes MC code Continuing development of HiRes reconstruction code. Conventional surveying of mirror locations and directions. Maintenance of Networking and Communications to Dugway. Maintenance of all site facilities at HiRes-1 and HiRes-2. Maintenance of Dugway housing and misc. infrastructure. Primary responsibility for the ASPIRE education and outreach program.

10 Institutional Responsibilities: Columbia Development of stereo reconstruction algorithms. Analysis of UHECR spectrum and composition from both monocular and stereo data. Search for UHE neutrino-induced air showers. Software HiRes-2 detector alignment survey using background fluctuations from starlight. Monitoring of atmospheric conditions using background fluctuations from starlight. Continuing development of HiRes MC simulation code. Data handling/backup.

Maintenance of HiRes-2 Detector –Repairs/replacement of electronic components –Repairs/replacement of PMT modules –Maintenance of on-site fiber-optic network –Maintenance and development of PLD firmware –Maintenance and development of data acquisition code

Comparison of UHECR results to theoretical models Development of reconstruction algorithms Development of MC simulation code: Detailed data/simulation comparison: –Verification of atmospheric parameters and estimation of systematic uncertainties –Tuning of MC input parameters Alternate analysis of atmospheric characterization data.

13 Institutional Responsibilities: Rutgers (cont’d) Maintenance (and original construction) of microwave-based HiRes1-2 inter-site trigger system. Set-up and maintenance of a parallel primary PMT calibration facility at Rutgers. GPS-based mirror location survey for both HiRes-1 and HiRes-2. Survey of mirror directions at both sites using CCD-imaging of bright stars. Monitoring of HiRes-2 detector performance and data quality. Maintenance repairs of PMT assemblies at HiRes-1.

14 Institutional Responsibilities: Montana Analysis of UHECR anisotropy. Remote operation of HiRes-1 detector. On-line and off-line monitoring of HiRes-1 detector performance and data quality. Analysis of HiRes nightly laser calibration data. Hardware upgrades to HiRes-1 detector to improve remote operability and reliability. ASPIRE education and outreach: –shares lesson production –local outreach activities in Montana.

15 Institutional Responsibilities: New Mexico ( minimally DOE funded ) Analysis of atmospheric monitoring data. Simulation work in support of atmospheric characterization. Maintenance of atmospheric monitoring equipment. Construction and maintenance of a DC horizontal extinction length monitor.

16 Institutional Responsibilities: Adelaide ( ARC funding ) Analysis of UHECR anisotropy. Maintenance (and original construction) of GPS timer modules at HiRes-1. Maintenance (and original construction) of (12) static directional IR cloud monitors at HiRes-1. Maintenance (and original construction) of scanning cloud monitor at HiRes-1.

17 Institutional Responsibilities: Tokyo ( internal ICRR funding ) Implementation, operation, and maintenance of auxiliary atmospheric monitoring equipment. Analysis of data from auxiliary atmospheric monitoring equipment.

18 Institutional Responsibilities: Los Alamos ( Utah subcontract ) Analysis in search of beyond-Standard Model particles physics in UHECR induced air-showers (e.g. extra-dimensions manifested in enhanced neutrino interaction cross-section). Hardware upgrades to HiRes-1 detector to improve remote operability and reliability. Provide shift runners for staffing the HiRes-2 site.
