Regional Innovation Centre for Electrical Engineering (RICE) Prof. Zdeněk Peroutka Faculty of Electrical Engineering University of West Bohemia in Pilsen Czech Republic

Regional Innovation Centre for Electrical Engineering (RICE) At present, R&D activities at FEE are concentrated into a new research center “Regional Innovation Centre for Electrical Engineering (RICE)” and RICE is a trade mark of FEE for excellent research. RICE is funded from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and started in October 2010 with budget of ≈ 25 mil. EUR. RICE targets: Build up a unique hi-tech R&D infrastructure. Establish an experienced team of experts. Start up strategic R&D projects with industrial partners. Be a leader in selected R&D activities.

Regional Innovation Centre for Electrical Engineering (RICE) More than 150 of our researchers have been involved in solving a project with a total budget of over 2 billion Czech crowns. We cover the complete research chain, from basic theoretical research, through applied research, to the development and testing of working samples and prototypes. RICE builds new research infrastructure which is unique in the world, e.g. a laboratory hall and testing facility for medium- voltage power electronics and transport systems (allowing testing up to 31 kV / 4MW), special laboratories for research of new materials and sensors (primarily based on organic materials), including so-called “clean rooms”, special microscopic laboratories, and X-ray diagnostics, etc.

Regional Innovation Centre for Electrical Engineering (RICE) Main research targets

Regional Innovation Centre for Electrical Engineering (RICE) New concepts of drives and sophisticated components and technologies for new generation of transport systems. Materials research, with the main focus on organic electronics, intelligent sensors, and multi-sensor systems. Control systems for transport technology, power engineering and industrial automation, including complex systems for automated testing of the functionality and reliability of equipment. New equipment and technology for increasing the efficiency of electrical energy and heat production, raw materials mining, and complex industrial systems. Advanced nuclear technologies with main application in nuclear power plants and space research. Diagnostics, safety and reliability of systems and technologies – research and development of new diagnostic methods and processes, as well as sophisticated automated testing systems. Mathematic modeling and calculation of complicated physical events, research and development of new methods of solving physical fields and their mutual interaction. What we offer?

Electronics and testing RICE developed REMCS (RICE Embedded Modular Control System). is designed for real-time control applications in the field of energetics and transport technology. is developed as a universal platform of the control system for a wide range of applications. During the development the latest technologies were used: 2x internal LVDS communication 1.3Gb, Hercules ™ ARM ® Safety microprocessor, increased HW safety features, Altera ® Avalon ® Interfaces, FPGA design based on Avalon® Qsys System. REMCS is designed for 19 "rack, but individual modules can be also used separately. is provided as an open platform for the implementation of single and demanding applications, including manufacturing data. Each customer has the option to further extend the system according to his needs. REMCS won ZLATÝ AMPER 2013 REMCS

Power engineering and industrial systems Sophisticated expert system for design of high-power drives (fans and pumps) Software

Mathematical-physical modeling and machine design Agros2D is a multiplatform application for the solution of physical problems based on the Hermes library, developed by the group at RICE. HERMES is a C++ library for rapid development of adaptive hp-FEM / hp-DG solvers. Novel hp-adaptivity algorithms help solve a large variety of problems ranging from ODE and stationary linear PDE to complex time-dependent nonlinear multiphysics PDE systems. What Agros2D can offer you Numerical solution of physical fields (single and multi-physics analysis with the possibility of weak and hard coupling) Complex time-dependent nonlinear solver Steady state, harmonic and transient analysis Particle tracing in electromagnetic fields User-friendly preprocessor and powerful postprocessor Support for scripting in Python (advanced IDE PythonLab) Agros2D/HERMES
