About the British Liver Trust The British Liver Trust campaigns for better prevention, detection and care for liver conditions and provides a range of services for all those affected.
What Does Your Liver Do? The Liver is the largest organ in the body with over 500 essential functions – in the average adult it is the size of a rugby ball! You only have one and CANNOT survive without it. Only organ that can regenerate and repair itself, though not if consistently damaged by alcohol, fatty deposits or a virus The liver has no nerve endings so you cannot feel damage occurring. Early symptoms – fatigue, poor appetite, weight loss, general “unwell feeling” are often missed and can be associated with other conditions. Transplantation is often the only solution for advanced Liver Disease – Just under 800 performed a year in UK in 2011/2012

How we can help you… Staff Love Your Liver Education Events In the past 6 months BLT have staged Love Your Liver events for
Why Stage a Love Your liver Event? A third of employees admitted to having been to work with a hangover Impact Assessment paper on minimum pricing calculated lost productivity due to alcohol in the UK at about £7.3bn per year. 1 in 10 reported hangovers at work once a month; 1 in 20 once a week Work problems resulting from hangovers or being drunk at work included difficulty concentrating; reduced productivity; tiredness and mistakes The majority of employers (77%) interviewed identified alcohol as a major threat to employee wellbeing and a factor encouraging sickness absence
Tailoring your perfect event… Prior to event: –Information for intranet/staff /internal newsletter to promote the event. –Access to our online liver health screener so staff can see their risk factors for liver disease, and importantly what to do if they may be at risk. –Materials to promote the event in the workplace.
On the day…. –One or two British Liver Trust representatives, depending on timing, number of employees attending and availability. –Delegate pack with leaflets and Love Your Liver materials for participants. –Laptop/s with our health screener installed for employees to complete on the with a print out of results to take away. –Range of liver disease specific and general liver health publications. –Mocktails & recipe cards and/or alcohol free wine. –Fun activities to engage staff in the subject matter e.g. beer goggles and pin the liver on the torso.
For that extra… Major events could include presentations from our CEO, as well as support from liver specialists. We also have the option of providing ultrasound liver scans, working with local liver nurses and consultants to deliver one to one consultations if needed. Fibroscan Probe is non-invasive, completely external and painless; it simply generates a mechanical pulse at skin surface which is tracked as it passes through the liver.
So what are you waiting for? Love Your Staff and help them to Love Their Livers Thank You.
