2 In the past tense, there is a subject, an auxiliary verb and a past participle. J’ai joué au football subject auxiliary verb past participle (Je) (ai) (joué)

3 The auxiliary verb (the helping verb) is usually “avoir” which means “to have”. Copy the following in to your books. J’AI TU AS IL / ELLE A NOUS AVONS VOUS AVEZ ILS / ELLES ONT I HAVE YOU HAVE HE/SHE HAS WE HAVE YOU HAVE THEY HAVE ON A ONE HAS

4 PAST PARTICIPLES Mostly, past participles end in one of three possibilities… é i u For example… joué = played fini = finished vendu = sold So to identify a phrase in the past tense, look for a part of “avoir” and a “past participle”.

5 Which part of “avoir” is missing? Complete the 4 sentences with the correct part. Remember, each sentence will be in the past. Write the English next to them
