6)Language Points 1. I am filled with wonder when I consider the immeasurable contrast between the two lives which it connects. What is the immeasurable contrast? Before the teacher came, she lived in a still, dark world in which there was no strong sentiment or tenderness. What do the two lives refer to? The two lives she led before and after the teacher came?

2. On the afternoon of that eventful day, I stood on the porch, dumb, expectant. Why did Helen consider March 3,1887 an eventful day? Because the day marked a turning point in her life. On that day, the teacher came to her to reveal all things to her, including love.

3. The afternoon sun penetrated the mass of honeysuckle that covered the porch, and fell on my upturned face. That covered the porch

4. Have you ever been at sea in a dense fog, when it seemed as if a tangible white darkness shut you in, and the great ship, tense and anxious, groped her way toward the shore with plummet and sounding-line, and you waited with beating heart for something to happen? What does white darkness mean? A feeling of being lost, like a ship at sea almost incapable of finding her way in a white fog without sunshine.

What does her refer to?

5. I stretched out my hand as I supposed to my mother. I stretched out my hand, as I supposed, to my mother. I supposed that stretched out my hand to my mother (instead of to anyone else) as

6. Someone took it, and I was caught up and held close in the arms of her who had come to reveal all things to me, and, more than all things else, to love me. reveal: to make known 揭露,揭示 ; to allow to be seen: 展现,显示 ; …who had come to reveal…
