Customized math instruction via the Internet All it took was a little effort … and the MCAS-Pass Learning Lab.
What is MCAS-Pass?
MCAS-Pass is a website offering top quality math instruction through the MCAS-Pass Learning Lab
The MCAS-Pass Learning Lab operates in one of three modes: Test Simulation Mode 40 question modules with the look and feel of an online MCAS test. Tutorial Mode 25 question modules focusing on a concentrated area of study. Students may try each problem and then move into Review mode. Review Mode Test or tutorial module questions are reviewed. The student’s chosen answer is displayed and this is followed by a comprehensive and highly detailed step-by-step explanation of how to solve the problem successfully.
Test Simulation Mode Question presentation area Answer Box and control area Question Navigation buttons can be used to go directly to any question. Colors indicate status: Green for the current question Blue for answered questions Red for unanswered questions Black for purposely skipped questions A calculator is available for selected questions 5 Formula Sheets and a User Guide pop up upon demand Ability to submit or change an answer or even skip a question Navigation controls
Tutorial Mode After attempting the problem, the student submits his or her answer to view a comprehensive and detailed, step-by-step explanation of how to solve the problem successfully. The system then operates in Review Mode until the next question is requested, at which time it reverts to Tutorial Mode. Question progress indicator A calculator is enabled or disabled (as shown) automatically depending on the question. Question presentation area 5 Formula Sheets pop up upon demand Each student enters his or her answer here.
Review Mode After the student is reminded of the answer he or she provided during the previously administered baseline or practice test module, a comprehensive and detailed, step-by-step explanation is presented in the lower frame. The question that appeared on the test remains available for viewing in the top frame at all times. Navigation controls allow the student to page back and forth among explanation screens, repeat the entire explanation, or move to the next question. A User Guide is always available too. Question progress indicator The review can be exited at any time, to be resumed at a later time.
The MCAS-Pass Learning Lab is more than top quality math instruction delivered via the Internet.
It is customized instruction tailored to each student’s individual learning needs.
The MCAS-Pass Learning Lab Assists Students Individually (Part 1) Each student begins by taking a baseline assessment test Based on the results, a customized learning program is recommended
The MCAS-Pass Learning Lab Assists Students Individually (Part 2) Students engage sequenced tutorials in specific mathematics subject areas or “strands” according to their individual learning program Students take retests to evaluate and track their learning progress The recommended learning program is revised based on retest results
The MCAS-Pass Learning Lab Is In A Class By Itself Program design is the result of a collaboration among Ph.D.s and state certified math teachers Protocol is based on empirical research findings about education, learning, and achievement Questions are based on scientific analysis of MCAS test results of more than 200,000 students Instruction is customized to the individual strengths and weaknesses of students Learning content and explanations are extraordinarily detailed and comprehensive
