1 22 October 2011BADN AGM East Midlands Region Overview Co-ordinator: Fiona Ellwood Aims and Objectives Aims:To generate a larger following of the BADN and by speaking across the regions for colleagues, showing the skill mix and diversity of dental nurses. Objectives: To encourage new members to join BADN® over the next 12 months and to work with existing members. Seek an allegiance with the corporate sectors.

2 22 October 2011BADN AGM East Midlands Region Activities over past year The East Midlands Region supported the regional study day and we have a very strong relationship with the Deanery as a result. Again it was a huge success and we are hoping to host this next time. I have attended: Dental Networking meetings. Widening the horizon careers conventions. PCT careers and opportunities open day. Developed a training package to draw the corporate sector in. I have been involved in developing CQC work, along with RQIA and HIS across the regions. I have attended the NOHPG meeting, who are keen to form an allegiance with us. Supported a BADN colleague as a speaker on professionalism.

I would also like to be able to contact some more dental nurses in our region and set up a quarterly Newsletter.

The group has an annual study day allowing dental nurses to gain verifiable CPD, looking at current issues and topics within the Dental Nursing Profession. NW Coordinator - Donna Hough

18 22 October 2011BADN AGM Conscious Sedation My name is Kirsty Purshouse and I achieved my NEBDN qualification for Dental Sedation Nursing in September 2009 at Cardiff Dental Hospital University. I work for Gloucestershire Care Services assisting a senior Dental Officer treating patients with specialist requirements, such as severe phobias and medically compromised, using Inhalation Sedation technique. I am currently based at the Stroud clinic but have previously worked at other main sites such as Gloucester and Cheltenham.

19 22 October 2011BADN AGM Conscious Sedation I took up the post on the BADN Council as a seconded member for Sedation in the summer of 2011, so I do not have much to report to date. However, I have recently written an article for the dental tribune, which looks at guidelines in the provision of sedation services and training for dental nurses in particular.

20 22 October 2011BADN AGM Conscious Sedation I am looking at getting involved with the Dental Sedation Teaching Group to find out more about their organisation. I will be cascading reports on any new legislation and guidelines relating to sedation, and informing BADN members of sedation courses, either postgraduate or refresher, to help obtain CPD hours.

23 22 October 2011BADN AGM Education To update and re-launch the Networking Scheme for those BADN members already in the scheme and for those individuals signed up for the newsletter To promote better communication for BADN members, via the education newsletter To encourage individuals to participate in reflective practice, including reflective practice survey To attend meetings to discuss and take forward the mentorship qualification for dental nurses and invite participation from appropriate stakeholders To continue to attend study days and education committee meetings for the advancement of dental nurse education

27 22 October 2011BADN AGM Special Care – Margaret Martin I have been a Dental Nurse for 23 Years I worked in a General Dental Practice for 18 Years. I am now working for Central Manchester Foundation Trust, we are a student outreach clinic for fourth year dental students. We also see and treat Children and Adults with varying degrees of both physical and learning disabilities by the Specialist in Special Care Dentistry. I gained the Certificate in Conscious Sedation in 2007 and have this year gained the NEBDN Certificate in Special Care Dental Nursing.

28 22 October 2011BADN AGM Special Care I have only just become a Seconded member so I do not have much to report. I have just written an article on Special Care Dentistry for the Dental Tribune Magazine.
