1 Cat and kitten game Find out what happens when Molly the girl cat meets Tom the boy cat!

2 Molly the girl cat meets Tom the boy cat who lives down her street
Molly the girl cat meets Tom the boy cat who lives down her street. Molly hasn't been to the vets to be 'neutered' to stop her having kittens so she gets pregnant.

3 Nine weeks later Molly gives birth to a litter of kittens.
Can you count how many kittens Molly has had?

4 Molly had 6 kittens. Some mum cats have even more kittens than this to look after which can be very hard work for them and very tiring.

5 3 of Molly’s 6 kittens are girls and 3 are boys.
The 3 girl kittens aren’t taken to the vets to be neutered to stop them having kittens. 6 months later they also meet a boy cat and all get pregnant....

6 9 weeks later Molly’s 3 girl kittens,
who are still only kittens themselves, give birth to lots more kittens..... How many kittens do they have altogether?

7 That makes 18 more kittens that all need to find a loving new home.
Did you count 18 kittens altogether? If so you were right – Molly’s 3 girl kittens had 18 more kittens themselves, which is hard work for their bodies that are still growing into adult cats. This can leave them feeling tired and poorly  That makes 18 more kittens that all need to find a loving new home.

8 At the same time, Molly the mum cat who gave birth to the first 6 kittens still hasn’t been to the vets to be neutered…. While her kittens were busy having kittens, she had TWO MORE litters of kittens so another 12 kittens were born, also all needing loving new homes.

9 Can you count how many cats there are now altogether?
Altogether, in just a few months, Molly the mum cat and all her kittens and their kittens make a lot of cats all needing new homes. Can you count how many cats there are now altogether?

10 Did you count 37 altogether. (don’t forget to count Molly too
Did you count 37 altogether? (don’t forget to count Molly too!) If so well done. That is a lot of cats that all need to find a loving new family to live with.

11 In fact if Molly never went to the vets to be neutered then in just five years she could make over 20,000 kittens. That is ALOT of cats that would all need a loving new home.

12 At Wood Green we think EVERY adult cat should visit the vets for a neuter operation.
This would stop all the unwanted kittens being born that end up in rescue centres like Wood Green every year. Even all boy cats can be neutered to stop them making kittens with un-neutered girl cats.

13 How can YOU help cats? Now you are a neutering expert, tell everyone you know why it is such a good idea to neuter their cat. The more cats that are neutered means less unwanted kittens needing new homes and staying in rescue centres like Wood Green.

14 Together we can make a difference and help cats like all of those below. These cats have all been lost or unwanted and in need of a new home.

15 For helping to tell people all about neutering, Molly and all her kittens would like to say…
Thank you for your help!
