1 What’s on a Circle of Support? The person in the middle is the ‘Focus Person’.

2 What’s on a Circle of Support? The Circles around the person are used to illustrate the different relationships the ‘focus person’ may have with ALL the people in their lives.

3 What’s on a Circle of Support The First Circle is the Circle of Intimacy The Second Circle is the Circle of Friendship The Third Circle is the Circle of Participation The Fourth Circle is the Circle of Exchange Intimacy Friendship Participation Exchange

4 The Circle of Intimacy? The first circle is used to represent people who have an INTIMATE relationship with the focus person. For example……. Husband or Wife, Partner, Lover, Mum, Dad, Brother or Sister etc..... INTIMACY

5 The Circle of Friendship? The second circle is used to represent FRIENDSHIPS* in the lives of the focus person. FRIENDSHIP * For example people they speak to and see on a regular basis, but are not as close to them as those in the first circle.

6 The Circle of Participation? Participation The third Circle is used to represent PARTICIPATION in the lives of the focus person. *For example, people they really like but only see occasionally or people who come in and out of their lives.

7 The Circle of Exchange? Circle of Exchange The fourth circle is the CIRCLE OF EXCHANGE which represents the people who are paid to be in the lives of the focus person. * For example a Support Worker, a Doctor, a Dentist, the Milkman or a Hairdresser.

8 Jimmy’s Circle of support The following slides show how using a Circle of Support can highlight the different relationships a person we support has in their lives and how we can help to build and maintain those relationships.
