Training Plan and Support Events 2013 Grow and Develop with Family Options Through our service we will make a difference to peoples lives.

We feel proud to offer this comprehensive training plan to our foster carers. You will notice some familiar training sessions that were successful in previous years. You will also see new training that we are trialling and we hope that you will enjoy and use within your everyday practice to enhance the lives of the children and young people you foster. This training plan is a live document and we hope to add to it throughout the year. Please book all of your places for training through Sarah Collins on sarah.collins@youngoptions.co.uk or by calling 07860404605. Alternatively you will regularly be asked to complete a Training Requisition form in your supervisions which will be passed on to Sarah. sarah.collins@youngoptions.co.uk Welcome to Family Options Training and Support Event Plan for 2013

We have included a ‘Learning Record’ into the training plans this year for you to be able to reflect on the training you have attended. This can also include any self learning you have achieved such as reading books or articles or training through your own employment that will assist with the fostering task. Your social worker will go through these with you as a part of supervision. It will also support any further learning and development areas you may want to cover. You will notice this sunflower on some pages – this represents specific foster carer training. Family Options have set aside dates for foster carers support events throughout the year. We have invited some guest speakers to discuss with you different topics from medication awareness to an Introduction to Pedagogy. We hope that you will enjoy these sessions. Welcome to Family Options Training and Support Event Plan for 2013 We will be adding to this training plan throughout the year as your local authorities complete their annual training plans from April and so we will inform you of any courses that will be appropriate for you in your area. However we are happy for you to look into training yourselves and inform us of your findings!

Welcome to Family Options Training and Support Event Plan for 2013 We are hoping to book a guest speaker to share his experiences of being in foster care as a child – we will keep you updated on this! We are awaiting confirmation of dates for ‘Prison – No Way’ awareness that carers and young people will be invited too. This workshop is aimed to prevent young people being involved in crime Family Options are looking to access workshops for carers and young people to raise awareness of gang cultures. So please keep a look out for this too! With the new Consultant clinical psychologist just coming on board we are awaiting dates for the PCMT training courses so again we will be in touch to update you of these when we have them.

Family Options have devised a ‘Training Pathway’ in respect of your Skills Payment Level. This will offer carers at level 1, 2, and 3 access to training courses appropriate for your level. Please see below the table for how this will work for you. Level 1 CWDC – to be completed within the first twelve months of approval First Aid – Mandatory training to be completed prior to placement commencement Safeguarding - Mandatory training to be completed prior to placement commencement All Young Options, Family Options and Local Authority post approval training Level 2 All of the above – annual refresher of 1 st Aid and safeguarding. Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) - Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce or equivalent course to meet your needs of being a foster carer. Please speak to your SSW if you require any further specific training to meet the needs of your fostered young person or personal development and we will look into this for you. Level 3 All of the above We have researched new online companies and courses, an example is AC Education (formally AKAMAS). Level 3 carers, through supervision and annual reviews will have the opportunity to discuss further advanced courses of which Family Options may offer funding towards.
