3 Purpose of Our Meeting ► To Gain an understanding of Pastoral Council and its ministry for the parish ► To Examine the Renewal Planning Process  As Systematic Analysis and Process  Discernment in the Holy Spirit  Planning for the future ► To Grasp the Outcomes of the renewal process at Saint Elizabeth

4 Pastoral Council and Its Ministry Similarities between a Parish Council and Pastoral Council: ► Both are consultative bodies ► Neither required by canon law as is a Finance Council ► Either is required in each parish by Diocesan policy and the Diocesan Bishop

6 Brief History of Pastoral Council at Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Parish ► Formed Fall, 2006 with 13 members ► July/2008 Retreat – a growing sense of general parish input for renewal, identity, and long-range planning for the parish was experienced ► The question was “How to embark on the renewal process and gather information for parish renewal?” The answer came:  The need for Parish mission-spiritual boost  Needs Assessments-several instruments

7 Renewal Planning ► Analysis included five instruments:  2007 Parish Survey  Talents Composition (Blue Cards)  Parish Timeline in Advent  Liturgical Calendar  Ministries Discernment in Lent

8 Renewal Planning ► Analysis  2007 Parish Survey ► 800 responses received regarding the ministries, operations, and physical plant ► Shared with parish in bulletin ► Shared with parish staff, Finance Council, and Pastoral Council to help decide direction and planning

9 Renewal Planning ► ► Analysis  (Blue Cards)  Talents Composition (Blue Cards)  1,000 cards received. 5,000 entries made to parish system because most indicated more than one talent they would like to share for the good of parish  Provided an excellent reference of the make-up of the parish  Reports were designed and are run for parish events and activities and volunteers called based on what was indicated resulting in more parishioner involvement

11 Renewal Planning ► ► Analysis ► Liturgical Calendar…These are few of my favorite things…  Parishioners indicate what feeds them spiritually  Provides pulse for pastoral staff on where we are as a community spiritually  Gives direction on how to better build each parishioner’s Catholic identity  Helps with programming  Helps define mission

12 Renewal Planning ► ► Analysis   Ministries Discernment in Lent ► ► Under direction of Bishop Zubik in “The Church Alive” ► ► Pastoral Council has been studying the letter ► ► Growing sense of rebirth in parish and the diocese simultaneously ► ► Want to be leaders in this process ► ► The entire parish will now study and reflect on the Bishop’s letter and what it means to be “Church”

From the Timeline and the Liturgical Calendar.  Who will write it for the parish? By parishioners who are interested and willing to share their talents in writing.
