The University of Aberdeen is Scotland’s third oldest university, and one of the UK’s most internationally distinguished, with a reputation spanning centuries. We have a student population of around 16,000, and a large international community of students (20%) drawn from 120 different countries. We have an excellent reputation for teaching quality and research, and over the years five Nobel Prizes have been awarded for work carried out or begun at the University. The University achieved excellent results in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise with 89% departments being recognised as centres of National and International renown. This means student will be taught by academics who may have written the books they are using and who are at the forefront in their fields of expertise. Over one million volumes in our collections and one of the largest and best equipped libraries in Scotland. The University is currently planning a multi-million pound new integrated library to serve its students and scholars. 13 The Thomson Reuters EIKON
This is the first of its type in the UK and Ireland. Indeed it is one of the most sophisticated finance and economic data resource facilities in the world. At its heart are fifteen Thomson Reuters EIKON enabled terminals and eight DataStream terminals. The EIKON platform allows for real time observation of the current trading in equity, foreign exchange, commodity and fixed income markets. The system allows users to view the current order book in multiple markets and simulate trading across those markets, when linked to Excel and other data analysis software. The EIKON trading floor represents an ongoing annual investment of nearly two hundred thousand pounds in facilities, software and connectivity. This investment in unmatched for finance programs in the UK.
