3 What colleges are looking for… Academically Grades, grades, grades! Number of courses completed Level of courses (academic, honors, AP/IB) GPA Test scores Transcript Beyond academics Leadership (proven & potential) Initiative/drive Service Commitment Balance Resilience

4 When do I apply to college? Typically, applications are due between October and February of senior year Each college has its own deadline Students are informed of admissions decisions as early as October and as late as April of senior year Students must inform a school as to whether or not they will attend by May 1 st of senior year

Each school you apply to will recalculate your GPA into an admissions GPA used at that school UC and Cal State Universities 10 th and 11 th grade A-G courses ONLY (cap # of Honors to 8 sem.) Private Colleges and Universities 9 th, 10 th, 11 th and 1 st semester 12 th grade May or may not use Religion and Elective Courses Rigor taken into consideration on school by school basis Out of State Public Colleges and Universities 9 th, 10 th, 11 th and 1 st semester 12 th grade Usually do not look at Religion Rigor taken into consideration on school by school basis
