3 University of California www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions Apply online November 1-30 SAT or ACT with Writing required Minimum 3.0 Wtd. 10-12 Academic GPA Completion of the A-G requirements Two personal statements Activity Resume No Transcript or Letters required Apply broadly among nine undergrad campuses for best chance of admission

4 California State University www.csumentor.edu Apply online October 1-November 30 SAT or ACT required Admission index based on 10-12 academic GPA and test scores No transcript, letters, or essays required Apply broadly among the 23 campuses CalPoly, SLO admits by major and considers the 9-12 GPA for admission San Diego State is very selective Apply broadly among 23 campuses for best chance of admission

5 Private Colleges and Universities Many will accept the Common Application www.commonapp.org Create an account on the Common App site or school website Check for requirements and deadlines Most require SAT or ACT; some require Subject Tests They will require transcripts and letters of recommendation May have Early Action or Early Decision options

6 Out of State Public Colleges and Universities Requirements and deadlines vary-check school websites Some accept the Common App, such as Michigan and Colorado State SAT or ACT is usually required Transcript required May require letters of recommendation Some schools have rolling admission policies and/or Early Action/Decision options

7 California Community Colleges www.cccco.edu No SAT or ACT required You may transfer to a four year institution after completion of lower division coursework CCCs offer a wide range of programs such as Fire Science, Dental Hygiene, and Nursing. Complete the application in the spring of senior year Most campuses require an assessment test in math and English Many offer an orientation for new students Some campuses have housing available

8 Counseling Counselors will meet with each senior to discuss college options Students who need letters of recommendation need to follow the instructions on Naviance Deadlines for requesting letters are Oct. 1 for Early Action/Decision and Nov. 1 for regular decision

9 College and Career Center Seniors are encouraged to meet with Joan Karr C&CC hosts College Visits; students sign up on Naviance Seniors should attend the Application Workshops on Wed. mornings from 8:00-8:30 Seniors review their applications online Essays

10 Naviance www.connection.naviance.com/acalanes Students are introduced to the website as Sophomores Seniors will list colleges, sign up for college visits, and order transcripts on Naviance Naviance also has a college search and college compare function Student statement, resume, and parent statement for letters of recommendation Select teachers and counselor on Naviance Scholarship list

11 Good Practices Safety schools: have at least two schools on your list you know you will get into that you would be willing to attend Discuss financial concerns early Limit your list to about 10 schools Attend rep visits Visit college campuses Attend Application Workshops Get help with the personal statement

13 Financial Aid FAFSA, Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is required. Complete after Jan. 1, 2014 www.fafsa.ed.gov CSF Profile is required by some, mostly private, schools. Check school websites for deadlines. www.cssprofile.org Scholarships are listed on Naviance Attend Financial Seminar on Oct. 22 at 7:00 in the PAC
