WELCOME TO GEOGRAPHY When answering or asking questions in your groups make sure you put your hand up, calling out will lose your team marks!! Remember to make your bingo cards!! Miss Parson – Allerton Grange School

WHAT’S THE LINK? 1 2 3 4 6 7 5 8

What you will achieve in this lesson Aims and objectives To be able to clearly label a diagram of the water cycle To be able to explain the key words within the water cycle To work effectively as a team member

Elements of the water cycle Condensation Water vapour in the air changing into water droplets Transpiration Water from plants turning into water vapour in the air

Elements of the water cycle Water storage Water is stored as ice Evaporation Loss of water from the sea or rivers turning into water vapour

Elements of the water cycle River Flow or storage of water Surface run-off Precipitation Rain, hail, snow, sleet

Elements of the water cycle Evaporation Water lost from rivers/lakes/sea

What was the link with the dinosaur? The water cycle is a closed system. Water is neither destroyed nor created. The water we drink today was the same water the dinosaurs drank!!!

Water cycle bingo How to play Each group has a bingo card with key geographical terms written on it At the beginning of each game I will tell you the game mission, for example get all four corners or fill the bottom line I will read out a definition of a key term and as a team you cover the correct word on your grid The first team to complete the game mission and put their hand up, wins!!

Water cycle bingo – Game 1 Mission – All four corners 1.Water on the ground going back to the sea 2.Water from the sea or rivers turning into water vapour in the air 3.Water from the air falling to the land 4.Water in the ground going back to the sea 5.Water vapour in the air changing into water droplets 6.Water from plants turning into water vapour in the air

Water cycle bingo – Game 2 Mission – Complete the bottom row 1.Water from plants turning into water vapour in the air 2.Water on the ground going back to the sea 3.Water from the air falling to the ground 4.Water in the ground going back to the sea 5.Water vapour in the air changing into water droplets 6.Water from sea or rivers turning into water vapour in the air

Water cycle bingo – Game 3 Mission – Complete the middle column 1.Water from the sea or rivers turning into water vapour in the air 2.Water vapour in the air changing into water droplets 3.Water from the air falling to the land 4.Water in the ground going back to the sea 5.Water on the ground going back to the sea 6.Water from plants turning into water vapour in the air

Water cycle bingo – Game 4 Mission – Complete the left column 1.Water from the air falling to land 2.Water in the ground going back to the sea 3.Water from plants turning into water vapour in the air 4.Water from plants/sea/rivers turning into water vapour in the air 5.Water on the ground going back to the sea 6.Water vapour in the air changing into water droplets

Water cycle challenge Using your water cycle bingo cards select the appropriate words and label the blank copy of the water cycle. You must complete your own copy of the water cycle for this task.

The water cycle

Recap and what's next Key points : The water cycle is a continuous process. Evapotranspiration, condensation, precipitation, surface run-off, groundwater, seas and oceans. Rivers are an important element within the water cycle for moving water.
