The AA battery
AA batteries are something that we use everyday. We use them for flashlights, toys, remotes, cameras etc. They were created by Alessandro Volta in 1800’s. All batteries work by creating an electric current through the movement of charged partials. It stores energy so that later you can use it without having to plug it in.
Inside the battery are things called core minerals and core minerals are what make a battery work. Core minerals convert chemical energy into useful energy. The core minerals are cadmium, cobalt, lithium, and nickel. There is also something in a battery called electrolyte, and electrolyte is a dilute solution of sulfuric acid and water witch is called battery acid electrolyte can be a paste or a liquid. The Negative side of a battery is called a Anode and the Positive side of a battery is called a Cathode and they are made of lead.
Where stuff is mined Nickel- can be mined almost everywhere Cadmium- is a combination with zinc and can be found anywhere where there is zinc Cobalt- is mainly mined in Morocco and Canada and is found in rocks and soil Potassium- is mainly mined in Germany Magnesium- mainly mined in Australia Lithium- is mainly mined in Argentina, Chile, and Australia Lead- is mainly mined in the u.s.a. Australia, Canada, and Russia
Definitions Electrolyte-certain inorganic compounds mainly sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium chloride and bicarbonate Lithium-soft silver-white metallic element outside cover The outside cover of a battery is usually made of plastic and zinc
