2 Success at GCSE Aims of the session To provide you with practical tips to support your son/daughter in their preparation for GCSE exams. To ensure all parents have up to date information regarding GCSE exams and revision sessions.

3 Success at GCSE Attend the following workshops… Workshop 1: A1 (Katie Barter) How to create a revision timetable Workshop 2: A2 (Ceddy de la Croix) Using past papers to revise Workshop 3: A3 (Graeme Swann) Flash cards, raps and other ‘clever’ techniques for revision Workshop 4: A5 (Stuart Kemp) How to use visualisation techniques to revise Workshop 5: A6 (Claire Oakes) 70% 20% 10% Workshop 6: A8 (Richard Found) How to use websites and Sam Learning to revise

5 Success at GCSE Key Dates Term starts: 7 th January 2013 January Exams start: Wednesday 9 th Jan Practicals start: 14 th March (tbc) Please note: Thursday 28 th February and Monday 4 th March, Maths exam

6 Success at GCSE Key Dates - revision Lang @ lunch: Thursday 13 th December & Tuesday 18 th December (Sixth Form centre) English Supercram Saturday: 15 th December (letter on website) History Supercram Saturday: 12 th January (letter on website) Maths OAs day: Friday 1 st February Science: (still waiting on LAF/RHR)

7 Success at GCSE Sixth Form Centre There are 10 spaces available every day after school for Year 11 students to use the new study area for independent revision

9 Success at GCSE We will… Provide extra tuition: 1 to 1 sixth form tuition Continue the mentoring process: all will have a mentor in January Maintain contact with parents Continue to update the information on the school website

10 Success at GCSE Parents can… Ensure students complete all coursework and homework tasks on time Ensure students attend after school revision and coursework sessions Ensure students have all material needed for a successful revision programme Reward/praise students for their hard work
