Step Two: Use the verb to find the subject of the sentence. Step Four: Is there subject/verb agreement? Why or why not? Step Five: Infer why Beyoncé chose to allow her daughter to attend the VMAs and why her family posed with her during awards presentations. Rule: A singular subject takes a singular verb, whereas a plural subject takes a plural verb. Rule: Find the verb first, and then find the subject. Rule: The word that follows “of” can’t be the subject.
