Expression in words: Expression in symbols: Add seven to a number. N + 7 Equation in symbols: Equation in words: N + 7 = 15 Add 7 to a number and you’ll get 15. When we give an expression in symbols it is called an algebraic expression.

I think of a number, square it, take away 3 and the answer is 13. N² - 3 = 13 N = 4 In each of the questions above can you solve the equation.
