5 Completing the College Application Find the application on the college’s website Look for “Apply On-line” or “Apply Now” Will need o Basic demographic information o Parent name, address, parent schooling (where, degree earned) o Use transcript to complete activity / resume section of application & add in additional activities, jobs, hobbies from outside of school. o Complete the essay, even if it is optional. o Don’t need to complete entire application at one time. Can start it, save it and come back to it later. o Must complete and SUBMIT it with the application FEE (by credit card)

6 Fee Waivers Reminder: If you qualify for free or reduced lunch, you may also qualify for college application fee waivers. If this applies to you, make an appointment with your counselor to discuss how to do this before sending in your applications.

10 For each college, student completes UDHS Transcript Request/Release Form

11 Completing the Transcript Request Form Complete identifying information. Parent and Student signatures are required

12 Completing the Transcript Request Form Enter the College name City and State. For Penn State ONLY, indicate your first and second campus choice.

13 Completing the Transcript Request Form Be accurate regarding Naviance Delivery Type. This will be indicated under “Delivery Type” after adding the college name to your “Colleges I’m Thinking About” list.

14 Completing the Transcript Request Form Be accurate regarding Admission Type (Early Action, Early Decision, Rolling, etc.). Refer to “Colleges I’m Thinking About” for this information; if no deadline is indicated, check Rolling Admission box on the form).

15 Completing the Transcript Request Form Refer to “Colleges I’m Thinking About” for the corresponding Application Deadline and enter the deadline on the line next to the Admission Type; there is no need to list a deadline for colleges with Rolling Admission. NOTE: ASAP is NOT a valid deadline!

18 Completing the Transcript Request Form If the college requires teacher recommendations, list the recommendations that you would like sent in PRIORITY ORDER. Leave blank if the college does not require recommendations.

20 If Common App: Student should have already created account on www.commonapp.org and completed the FERPA Waiver on CA.www.commonapp.org In Naviance, go to Colleges tab > click “Colleges I’m Applying To”. Carefully read the instructions about linking your Naviance and Common App accounts. In Naviance

22 If Common App: Enter your Common App e-mail address (i.e. the e-mail address you used when you created your Common App account) and Date of Birth and click the MATCH button. Note: your Common App e-mail address must be identical to your e-mail listed in Naviance. You can update your Naviance e-mail in Family Connection: About Me tab > “profile” You MUST complete this step in order for your transcripts and recommendations to be sent to Common App colleges! In Naviance

24 If Other Electonic: no further action is required by the student. If Paper: along with Transcript Request/Release of Records Form, student provides Guidance with any required college forms and a 9”x12” envelope addressed to the college including three (3) first-class stamps. Non-Common App Colleges

25 Penn State Schreyer Honors College A separate Transcript Request/Release Form is NOT required. When completing the online Schreyer’s application, students will provide e- mail addresses for counselor and teachers who will be submitting recommendations. EXCEPTIONS

26 Common Application If a college is indicated in Naviance as a Common App recipient, BUT the student chooses to use the college’s own application instead, you MUST notify your counselor in order for your materials to be sent in the appropriate format. ** See next slide for how to do this. 27 Common Application (continued) After submitting your Transcript Request/Release Form, the Guidance Department will add your transcript request to “Colleges That I’m Applying To” in Naviance. For Common Application colleges, click Unknown in the “Applying via Common App?” column (see next slide). EXCEPTIONS

UNKNOWN should NEVER be selected: either you are applying via the Common Application or you are not! Scroll down the page and click:

32 STEP 1: Student verbally requests recommendation from teacher. Even if you asked teachers last year, you MUST go back talk to them about it again in person – this year.

33 If teacher agrees, student enters recommendation request in Naviance. Log on to Naviance account (if you need your Naviance username and/or password, contact your counselor). STEP 2:

34 In Naviance, go to Colleges tab > click “Colleges I’m Applying To” STEP 2 (continued):

35 The first item you will see is the Common Application Matching box. STEP 2 (continued):

36 Scroll down to Teacher Recommendations and click “Add/Cancel Requests”. STEP 2 (continued):

37 Select teacher from drop down menu (a personal note is optional, but a nice touch!). Scroll down and click “Update Requests”. STEP 2 (continued):
