2 To help people with Disabilities have choice about how we live The Aim of the Training Programme

3 Our Target We want to help 20 people through the programme by April 2012

4 To help people with Disabilities understand:- The many ways of living and how to access them Housing rules & responsibilities Housing, support & care costs and find help The importance of making friends & connecting with the community Feel able to let others know when your not happy Understand the skills needed to live happily & safely Training Programme Learning Aims

5 We want to do these 4 things What’s possible for me Making a decision & moving Expanding our options Living Happily in my new home

6 The programme is about…. Learning through information sessions And making things happen together

7 Programme Topics Session Areas:- 1.Introduction & the many ways of living 2.Housing rules, responsibilities & applying for a home 3.Understanding our housing, support & care needs 4.The cost of housing & help available 5.The cost of care & help available 6.Reviewing what we have learnt & making an action plan

8 Some Rules for the Programme 1.You need to try to come to all the sessions 2.If you are under 18 you need to bring a family member or supporter with you 3.If you live with your family you need to bring a family member with you 4.If you need a support worker to help you please bring them with you

13 Session 2 – will cover…. Tenancy types & rules Ways of buying a home & rules Responsibilities of landlords & tenants Responsibilities of home owners Who can help us find a home? How to apply for a home to rent Understanding Choice based lettings Finding a private home (buy or rent) Applying for other sorts of home

14 Understanding Our Needs Housing needs & desires, Care / support needs and desires SESSION 3 – 18th Oct 2011

15 Session 3 – will cover…. What are your housing needs & desires What are your support and care needs How to get help with care / support Building a big picture of housing need how to work with Council’s & housing providers to make housing we want

16 The Cost of housing & and help available Help with paying the rent Help with paying the mortgage Help to claim housing benefit SESSION 4 – 1 st Nov 2011

17 Session 4 – will cover…. The cost of various sorts of housing Getting help to pay for housing Housing benefit & Local Housing Allowance – How to apply Mortgage help Help from families or trusts Raising or accessing money – discretionary trusts
