4 4 Enhanced and effectively deployed school business managers have the potential to drive significant benefits for schools – enabling through the transfer of leadership and management tasks from the Headteacher to SBM up to 1/3rd saving of their head teacher’s time; Around 5% of non salary related costs could be saved for reinvestment through more skilled and effective financial management; Through the encouragement of business partnerships of small schools, SBMs could through economies of scale spend less on several fronts, freeing up resources for the classroom and in circumstances of falling school rolls in rural areas help achieve sustainability.
