2 What is the PARISH PLAN? A method of helping communities to assess the needs of their community and identifying the actions required to address these needs. Community consulted in 2002 /2003 as part of the REAL Project Wish Trees Stick a Star Charts Visioning Events REAL Questionnaire Steering Group by the Parish Council formed in February 2007 to update the 2002/2003 consultation Detailed local questionnaire put out in 2007 asking questions specific to those living in Hesketh Bank

3 1600 questionnaires delivered 401 completed and returned A return rate of 25% An excellent response HESKETH BANK 2007 QUESTIONNAIRE Youth Questionnaire 69 responses

23 HEALTH AND HEALTHCARE Conclusions Lack of local primary care facilities a major issue for those without access to private transport Access to nearest hospital is difficult for many and extremely difficult to non car users Raise awareness and promote the facilities that are available locally Access to NHS Dental Care is an issue

40 Specific Suggestions Becconsall Old Church – Now under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust River Douglas Boat Yard – “Too many run down boats” River Douglas River Bank – To be developed as a linear corridor for walking / cycling Village Shops – “Lacks character”, “parking a problem”, “introduce a designated grassed seating area”, “the old shed next to the newsagents is an eyesore”

41 CONSERVATION AND HERITAGE Specific Suggestions [continued] Playing fields – “problem with dog fouling”, “poor condition of some pitches”, “lighting needs to be improved”, “bowling club has an unkempt appearance”. Becconsall Hotel- “A valuable old building”, “awful inside”, “an eye sore that needs a revamp”, “its gone to rack and ruin”. West Lancs Light Railway – “worthy of Heritage and Conservation Status”.

42 YOUTH AND YOUTH FACILITIES Youth Questionnaire developed with the youth of Hesketh Bank and issued to every household – 69 responses. What we like to do – “socialising, chilling out and hanging out”

44 Travel - One third rely on cars to get around, two thirds cycling and walking. Public transport seen as too expensive and too infrequent Nothing to do – 93% thought that there wasn’t enough to do in Hesketh Bank However 50% did not know that there were two youth clubs in Hesketh bank

48 Youth Representation 75% supported the formation of a Youth Council to represent the views of young people living in the area. 33% said that they would be prepared to serve on the Youth Council
